Abstract: A user interface apparatus and method are provided for gloved and non-gloved touch sensitive button actuation. A user interface (100) embodied as a body wearable harness (104) provides a touch button control system having an activation button (120) and functional touch sensitive control buttons (108, 110, 140). The activation button (120) has a capacitive touch element (130) associated therewith that determines gloved or non-gloved operation based on a capacitive measurement taken in response to a finger input to the button. A plurality of control buttons (108, 110, and 140) are automatically assigned increased sensitivity levels in response to detected gloved mode operation in accordance with the measurement. The increased sensitivity levels allow various radio functions to be accessed by a gloved finger input during gloved mode operation with increased reliability. Additional control button identification can be added through the addition of vibrational alerts. Display and screen type control buttons can further be combined into larger and fewer buttons for ease of gloved landing.

Abstract: A method of managing communications of a mobile communications device. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a travel route with the mobile communications device and assigning a first quality of service to the mobile communications device in response to receiving the travel route. The method also includes determining a current location of the mobile communications device, determining a positional deviation of the mobile communications device from the travel route based on the current location of the mobile communications device, and assigning a second quality of service to the mobile communications device when the positional deviation of the mobile communications device exceeds a predetermined threshold. The second quality of service being higher than the first quality of service.

Abstract: A method and system for maintaining ambient monitoring capability for a communication device. The method includes using a first target identity to identify the communication device in a first ambient monitoring session with an ambient monitoring device. The method also includes, while in the first ambient monitoring session, receiving, by an electronic processor of the communication device, a communication service state change notification for the first target identity. The method also includes, while in the first ambient monitoring session, determining a second target identity to identify the communication device in a second ambient monitoring session that has not been established. The method also includes, while in the first ambient monitoring session, transmitting, to the ambient monitoring device, the second target identity.

Abstract: A process and device for responding to a query includes receiving, at an electronic computing device, a query for providing a response at a first communication device. The process further includes determining that the response to the query is to be provided as a group response to communication devices in the first communication group. When one or more of the communication devices do not have permission to receive the group response, the electronic computing device causes modification of the group response to generate a second response and provides the second response to at least one of the communication devices in the first communication group. Alternatively, the electronic computing device alters an output action and provides the group response to at least one of the communication devices in the first communication group in accordance with the altered output action.
