Abstract:
A semi-concealed hinge has been provided for mounting a door in a relatively close adjustable operating relation with a furniture side rail or frame. A socket part is adapted to be substantially fully positioned within a backwardly and edgewise open slot in the door to carry a swing arm part on a hinged knuckle, in such a manner as to enable the door to be pressure-retained in a desired position, such as in a closed position. A connector or screw-on bracket-like plate is either integral with or secured to the swing arm part and, if it is a separate part, has a screw and slot mounted relation with the swing arm part that enables "up" and "down" adjustment of the door with respect to the frame. The connector or screw-on plate has opposed guide flange portions that are adapted to fit over and to be carried along opposite sides of the frame, and to cooperate with an inwardly positioned adjustment plate. The adjustment plate has an elongated slot and the connector plate has a central hole for receiving a frame mounting screw that adjustably operatively secures the plates on a side edge of the frame. The adjustment and connector plates have cooperating sloped or wedge surfaces which enable the connector plate to be moved inwardly and outwardly with respect to the frame in such a manner as to effect a fully parallel adjustment of the door along the front face of the frame.
Abstract:
An arrangement in a gate (10) wherein a cam track (23) is provided for lifting the gate on the pivot axis (12) thereof when the gate is being swung to opened position. An abutment (34) is provided in the cam track for a member (18) connected with the gate. The abutment is arranged to maintain the position in the cam track when the gate is being swung to opened position and is arranged for delayed yielding under the pressure exerted against the abutment by the gate (10) over the member when the gate is in opened position and is lifted by the cam track.
Abstract:
Garage door opener for simple installation and to fully actuate various counterbalanced doors of different makes with minimum mechanism, and to be packaged and sold as a compact kit. The opener is built around a short main drive shaft adapted to be coupled coaxially to the end of the door counterbalance shaft. The drive shaft is journalled in two frame side members and therebetween carries a worm gear and two friction drive disks spring-pressed against the gear to transmit limited drive torque therefrom to the shaft. The gear is driven by a worm on the shaft of a motor on a carrier which is slidable on the frame. A manual cam moves the carrier between a worm-engaged position for drive and a worm-disengaged position to release the door for manual operation. A threaded extension of the main shaft carries a pair of traveling nuts which actuate switches to limit door travel both directions. In one modification, the assembly is mounted on studs on a mounting plate and adjusted thereto to bring the drive shaft coaxial with the counterbalance shaft, and the two shafts are coupled. In a second modification, the assembly is cantilevered by its drive shaft on the counterbalance shaft and is stabilized in coaxial relation therewith by a torque-reaction bracket. Such bracket may include a torque-limiting switch operable to reverse the drive in response to excess torque. For most installations, a down-drive cable is added to the counter-balance mechanism and connected to positively move the door from open to closed position in response to down-drive rotation of the counterbalance shaft.
Abstract:
A counterbalance hinge mechanism for a cabinet lid includes a stationary cabinet affixed hinge rod serving to rotatably support a pair of axially stationary lid mounting cam members and to slidably support a pair of non-rotatable cam followers. An adjustable spring assembly serves to bias the cam followers into engagement with the cam members, whereby to counterbalance gravity induced torque effects of the lid throughout a substantial portion of lid opening movement.
Abstract:
The invention disclosed is a guide-rail roller suspension means for windows, doors or the like movable from an insulating frame engaging closed position to a frame non-engaging position during movement to an open position.
Abstract:
A bracket for suspending a sliding glass door comprising a unitary body defining a panel-receiving channel in which facing side walls of the channel are serrated to securely engage a glass panel inserted therebetween. Portions of the channel walls above the serrated facing side portions define an opening formed in the shape of a right triangle, whereby, the side wall portions of the channel may be deflected toward each other by the tightening of screws passing through the channel side walls to securely engage said glass panel therebetween. Roller means are also provided for slidably mounting the door.
Abstract:
A hinge having an elongate pintle and an elongate tubular hinge member mounted on the pintle for rotary movement thereon and vertical sliding movement thereon. An inclined generally circular track surrounds the lower end of the tubular member and the pintle. A roller on the tubular member rides the circular track to raise the tubular member on the pintle as the tubular member revolves on the pintle. A compression spring bearing against the top of the tubular member normally urges the tubular member downwardly on the pintle to normally maintain the hinge in a closed door position.
