Abstract:
Apparatuses and methods for a connection interface between a reservoir or syringe, infusion set tubing, and an infusion pump are provided. A base is provided which is adapted to receive a reservoir and engage a cap. A piercing member, such as a needle, is disposed in the interior of the cap in such a manner that the needle is separated from the reservoir septum when the base is in a first detent position, and the needle pierces a reservoir septum when the base is in a second detent position. When the reservoir, the base and the cap are connected to form an integrated unit, this unit is then capable of being inserted and secured in the infusion pump housing. In some embodiments, an integral connector couples directly to the reservoir.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a transfer device (1), in particular for a container (2) whose interior is under negative pressure and which is closed by means of an elastic stopper (5). The device has a receiving cap (9) and a piercing mandril (10) for piercing the stopper. Relative to its direction of piercing, the piercing mandril is provided with a front piercing portion (20) and with a rear sealing portion (21) which is of greater diameter. In the position in which a bead (4) of the container is inserted into the receiving cap, the sealing portion contacts the stopper. In this way, a tear in the stopper, which tear has been formed by eccentric application of the device onto the container, can be sealed off.
Abstract:
A Hands-Free Wall Mounted Bottle Holder apparatus enables a practitioner to prepare in advance a set of medicine bottles required during a medical procedure, mount the bottles in the proper position on a flat solid surface in an ergonomically preferred secure and locked condition, and then withdraw medicines in sterile fashion during the procedure without the assistance of another person.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for distributing substances. The inventive device comprises a distribution container (1) for receiving the substance in question, said container having a closing unit (3) which is provided with a canula (11) for the substance to be distributed, the outer end (15) of said canula protruding from the closing unit (3). The inventive device is also provided with a safety device (5, 17) which can alternate between a protective state in which it covers the outer end (15) of the canula (11), and a user state for the distribution of the substance from the canula (11).
Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to medical devices for mixing, preparing and administering therapeutic compositions, and more particularly to a system comprising two syringes and a locking ring wherein two compositions are mixed between the two syringes immediately prior to administration.
Abstract:
A kit and needle assembly for reconstituting a quantity of a lyophilized pharmaceutical. The kit of the invention may include a reconstituting appliance having a non-transparent needle covering portion with a hollow adapted to receive the inserted stoppered end of the injection pen cartridge, which needle covering portion extends around a side-firing cannula to hide the cannula from side view. A shiftable alignment member retained within the needle covering portion at a first axial position, and shiftable to a second axial position when abutted by the injection pen cartridge during its insertion, may be included. The kit includes an injection pen cartridge including a barrel filled with a quantity of a lyophilized drug, a slidable plunger used during pen operation to eject the reconstituted drug, and a stopper penetrable by the cannula during drug reconstituting. The needle assembly of the invention may include a cannula defining an axial passage therethrough in communication with a reservoir of diluent fluid. The distal end of the cannula terminates in a closed piercing tip, and is provided with a side port, in communication with the axial passage, which is configured to direct fluid passing through it in a direction diverging from the axis of the cannula. A collar fixedly mounted around a portion of the cannula defines an axial venting passageway therebetween, and the collar has a piercing distal end. A method for reconstituting a quantity of a lyophilized drug in an injection pen cartridge is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a device for the two-way transfer of a liquid (38) between a bottle (14) provided with a cap (44) capable of being perforated at a cartridge (12) comprising a cylindrical reservoir (26) wherein slides a piston (34) capable of being perforated. It comprises: a body (16) including means to be fixed on the bottle (14); a member (24) linking the piston (34) capable of being perforated to the body (16); a shuttle (20) relative to the body (16) and said linking member (24), the shuttle bearing a hollow needle (22) whereof one first end (112) is adapted to pierce the piston (34) and whereof the second end (114) is adapted to pierce the cap (44). The shuttle (20) is mobile between a piston wherein the needle ends (112, 114) are spaced apart from the piston (34) capable of being perforated and the cap (44) capable of being perforated and an end-of-stroke transferring position wherein the needle ends (112, 114) are received in the cartridge (12) and the bottle (14).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a drug delivery device for mixing and delivering a drug by injection. The device includes a housing having a first port or opening therein that receives a first container that contains a fluid or powdered drug, for example a lyophilized drug. The housing can also include a second port or opening that receives a second container that contains a fluid to be mixed with the drug to form an injectable fluid. The device includes a manifold having a channel that fluidly connects the first and second containers. A penetrating membrane such as a needle is used to inject the drug into a patient which is in fluid communication with the first container. The needle is movable from a storage position in the housing to an injection position extending through the housing.
Abstract:
A fluid transfer assembly comprising a bottle connector and a drug bottle. The bottle has a neck with an opening covered by a closure, while the connector has a hollow needle for penetrating the closure when establishing a fluid transfer line in the fluid transfer assembly. The assembly further comprises a neck element having locking members for irreversible coupling to the neck and to the connector. The neck element and the connector further comprise interacting guiding members for directing the hollow needle to penetrate the closure at a predetermined angle when establishing the fluid transfer line.
Abstract:
A safety shield apparatus is disclosed which includes a needle having a distal portion defining a longitudinal axis which is angularly displaced relative to a longitudinal axis defined by a proximal portion of the needle. A shield is mounted with the needle and extensible, via a tubular needle guide movable along the needle, between a retracted position and an extended position. The apparatus may include a needle hub configured to support the proximal portion of the needle. The needle hub can include an appendage which may have at least one opening to facilitate manipulation thereof. A distal end of the shield can be attached to a planar contact surface. The shield may also include a latch engageable with the needle.
