Abstract:
In a hardware accelerator for preamble detection of a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) in a CDMA based communication system, buffering means stores input samples received at an antenna at a first rate, addressing means read a predetermined consecutive number of the input samples in parallel at a second different rate. The hardware accelerator is further partitioned into a reusable unit providing code correlation, and a preamble detection dedicated unit providing signature code despreading. The reusable unit comprises means for correlating at least a subset of the previously read input samples with a predetermined code to provide a correlation output for a number of time lags. The preamble detection dedicated unit comprises means for preamble detection configured for providing Hadamard Transformation of the correlation output to enable preamble detection, and all means are arranged on a single hardware chip to enable high-speed data transmissions between the respective means.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system and method for providing radio frequency communication of data collected by a multiplicity of mobile transceiver units to a base transceiver. The system comprises the base transceiver and the mobile transceiver units being selectively operable at limited and increased data rates. The mobile units respond to transmissions by the base transceiver, and have means to evaluate the feasibility of responding at the increased data rate. The base transceiver effects a communication link with one or more mobile units. The mobile units for which a communication link has not been established receives the transmissions of the mobile units with which a communication link has been established. The mobile units evaluate for consistent reception of transmissions to one or more transceiver units. The mobile units which consistently receive transmissions at the increased data rate respond at the increased data rate when communication is directed thereto.

A method for designing a time-sliced and multi-threaded architecture comprises the steps of conducting a thorough analysis of a range of applications and building a specific processor to accommodate the range of applications. In one embodiment, the thorough analysis includes extracting real time aspects from each application, determining optimal granularity in the architecture based on the real time aspects of each application, and adjusting the optimal granularity based on acceptable context switching overhead.
Abstract:
A User Equipment (UE) receives and samples communication signals, where the communication signals have a time frame format, a transmission chip rate and a synchronization code associated with a time slot that includes a midamble that indicates a modulation of the synchronization code where a specified modulation of received synchronization codes identifies the timing for a timeslot in which data is to be received. The UE preferably includes a synchronization code determination circuit, a midamble determination circuit, and a phase modulation sequence detection circuit operatively associated with the midamble determination circuit. The UE can be configured for use with the low chip rate option of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) standards that employ a predefined set of downlink SYNC codes that point to midambles which indicate SYNC code modulation sequence to enables reading of data in a subsequent Broadcast Channel (BCH) message.
Abstract:
In a WCDMA mobile communication system, when the amount of packet traffic transmitted to or received from a UE decreases during a predetermined time in a CELL_DCH state in which a WCDMA packet data connection has been established, the UE transitions to a CELL_FACH state by a radio network controller (RNC). Thereafter, it is determined if there is no transmitted or received packet traffic during a certain time in the CELL_FACH state (which is an RRC state in which an RRC connection has been connected, and the dedicated physical channel has been released). When it is determined that there is no transmitted or received packet traffic during the certain time, the UE requests a network to release the RRC connection by utilizing a Signaling Connection Release Indication (SCRI) message. The invention enables a UE to check a packet transmission or reception flow, and to directly transmit the SCRI message to the network.
Abstract:
A base station for controlling transmission power during the establishment of a communication channel utilizes the reception of a short code during initial power ramp-up. The short code is a sequence for detection by the base station which has a much shorter period than a conventional access code. The ramp-up starts from a power level that is lower than the required power level for detection by the base station. The power of the short code is quickly increased until the signal is detected by the base station. Once the base station detects the short code, it transmits an indication that the short code has been detected.

Abstract:
There is provided a multi-mode communication system which is operable according to different operating modes, such as GSM and WCDMA. The multi-mode communication system includes first and second switching units, a delta-sigma modulator, an analog-to-digital converter, sequential convolution units and a selection unit. The delta-sigma modulator samples an analog signal, which is inputted through the first switching unit in one mode, into 1-bit digital signal. In another mode, the analog-to-digital converter samples an analog signal, which is inputted through the first switching unit into an n-bit digital signal. The sequential convolution units multiply filter factors with the output of the delta-sigma modulator, which is inputted through the second switching unit at the first mode, and multiply PN codes by the output of the analog-to-digital converter, which is inputted through the second switching unit at the second mode, to generate WCDMA output waveforms. The selection unit delays the outputs of the sequential convolution units by a predetermined time at the GSM mode to restore GSM output waveforms. Accordingly, the multi-mode communication system is operable according to multimodes, such as GSM mode and WCDMA mode.
