Abstract:
A method and apparatus for detecting relative displacement of hydraulic press components such as stem, container die and mandrel. Measurements are taken using suitable detectors such as wide-gap air gauges.
Abstract:
A billet containing an axially cold drilled cylindrical pilot hole and previously heated to deformation temperature is inserted into a hot piercing press. The pilot hole is flared at its forward end by a hot punching operation in the press itself prior to the application of the lubricant and the expansion operation. The hot punching can be done by a punching tool or by an expansion tool and the force of the press can be transmitted to the expansion tool in the expansion operation directly through a spindle or through the punching tool.
Abstract:
Method of forming gaskets by projecting a layer comprising 7090% of a fibrous material and 10-30% of a settable binder onto a supporting sheet, causing the binder to set, and there compressing the layer. An adhesive may be used to secure the layer to the sheet, or the sheet may be treated to prevent adhesion of the layer and removed after the compression step.
Abstract:
An improvement in an extrusion mandrel in combination with the cylindrical part of the mandrel that defines the interior contour of the extruded workpieces which includes a short front member of generally cylindrical configuration but having a cross-sectional diameter and a length less than the cylindrical part and a base member joining the front member to the cylindrical part. In use, the mandrel is positioned so that the short front member always cooperates with the die at the beginning of the extrusion.
