Abstract:
Disclosed are compositions for application to skin, comprising hydroquinone or a derivative thereof, and a cosmetically acceptable vehicle comprising an effective amount of absolute ethanol or an effective amount of an ethanol composition comprising ethanol and methyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol as a denaturant. Also disclosed are methods of whitening skin and reducing discoloration of hydroquinone compositions.
Abstract:
Disclosed are sunscreen compositions containing at least one sunscreen agent, a volatile solvent comprising a cosmetically acceptable lower alkanol, and a fluorinated alkyl ether, and methods of making and using same.
Abstract:
Topically applicable, aesthetically pleasing/elegant cosmetic/dermatological sunscreen compositions well suited for both effective and SPF-improved UV-photoprotection of human skin, scalp, lips, mucous membranes and/or hair contain (a) an effective UV-photoprotecting amount of at least one UV-A sunscreen and/or at least one UV-B sunscreen and (b) an effective aesthetically and SPF improving amount of glass microspheres, formulated into (c) a topically applicable, cosmetically/dermatologically acceptable vehicle, diluent or carrier therefor.
Abstract:
Topically applicable cosmetic/dermatological compositions well suited for both effective and SPF-enhanced UV-photoprotection of human skin, hair and/or scalp, most preferably packaged as spray delivery systems, contain (a) an effective UV-photoprotecting amount of at least one UV-A and/or UV-B sunscreen, most notably the sunscreen avobenzone, and (b) an amount of the interpolymer PVP/dimethiconylacrylate/polycarbamyl/polyglycol ester effective to statistically significantly enhance the SPF value of said at least one UV-A and/or UV-B or avobenzone sunscreen, formulated into (c) a topically applicable, cosmetically/dermatologically acceptable vehicle, diluent or carrier therefor; the subject compositions optionally contain a thus-effective amount of an artificial/sunless tanning agent.
Abstract:
A fine and stable emulsion of an oily phase in an aqueous phase containing ionic polymer particles, the oil globules of the emulsion having a mean size of at most 500 nm, a process for the stabilization of fluid emulsions, a process for the preparation of these emulsions and their use in the cosmetic and dermatological fields and more particularly as composition for anti-sun protection.
Abstract:
The present application relates to the use, as a cosmetic product, of crosslinked and at least 90% neutralized poly(2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid) polymers. They generally comprise, distributed randomly:a) from 90 to 99.9% by weight of units of general formula (1) below: ##STR1## in which X.sup.+ denotes a cation or a mixture of cations, not more than 10 mol % of the cations X.sup.+ being able to be protons H.sup.+ ;b) from 0.01 to 10% by weight of crosslinking units derived from at least one monomer having at least two olefinic double bonds; the weight proportions being defined relative to the total weight of the polymer. The present application relates in particular to their use as thickener and/or gelling agent in cosmetic and/or dermatological compositions.
Abstract:
Topically applicable, stable, photoprotective cosmetic/dermatological compositions, well suited for improved photoprotection of human skin and/or hair against the damaging effects of UV irradiation, particularly solar radiation, comprise (a) an effective photoprotecting amount of at least one dibenzoylmethane compound and (b) an effective photostabilizing amount of at least one polysaccharide alkyl ether.
Abstract:
Improvedly stable and effective, topically applicable cosmetic compositions well suited for artificially tanning and/or darkening human skin, comprise, in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle, diluent or carrier therefor, an effective artificial tanning amount of dihydroxyacetone, in immixture with at least one alkylpolysaccharide and at least one fatty alcohol, and, optionally, at least one polysaccharide.
Abstract:
Topically applicable sunscreen/cosmetic compositions well suited for enhanced photoprotection of human skin and/or hair against the damaging effects of UV-A and UV-B irradiation, particularly solar radiation, comprise a photoprotecting synergistically effective amount of (i) benzene-1,4-di(3-methylidene-10-camphorsulfonic)acid, optionally either partially or totally neutralized, and (ii) 2-ethylhexyl .alpha.-cyano-.beta.,.beta.-diphenylacrylate, in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle, diluent or carrier therefor.
Abstract:
Cosmetic composition containing at least one silicone, a lipid and water, in which the lipid is a nonionic amphiphilic lipid. The composition is prepared with the aid of a known process for producing nonionic vesicles, in which the nonionic amphiphilic lipid and the silicone are mixed before the process for forming the nonionic vesicles. At least one cationic surface-active agent is preferably introduced into the aqueous dispersion phase after formation of the vesicles.
