Abstract: Electronic circuits such as IC packages, circuit boards, of flex circuits are singulated by laser cutting of adjoining laminated material. The laser beam has a wavelength of less than 400 nm, and either a minimum energy density of 100 J/cm2 or a minimum power density of 1GW/cm2. The method avoids the need for cleaning and intermediate handling, and there is a greatly improved throughput.

Abstract: A humane whip for use in horse racing comprises an elongate self-supporting spine of glass fibre, carbon fibre or the like, surrounded by an outer flexible sleeve of rubber or soft plastics material. Shock-absorbing members are disposed between the inner spine and the surrounding sleeve, and may comprise internal ribs on the sleeve and the air trapped between the spine and sleeve. The soft flexible sleeve has a reinforcing layer which inhibits stretching of the sleeve at least in the longitudinal direction. The tips of both the inner spine and the outer sleeve are each formed with an enlarged bulb.

Abstract: A collision avoidance system for a warning aircraft includes a transmitter and receiver for interrogating the transponder of a warned aircraft. A computer to be installed in the warning aircraft is programmed with the distances or rates of closure at which the warning aircraft and the warned aircraft constitute traffic for one another. When the computer has determined that the warning aircraft and a warned aircraft constitute traffic for one another, a warning system broadcast an appropriate vocal warning.
