Abstract: An ion energy for plasma processing of a dielectric substrate is determined by exposing the dielectric substrate to a plasma discharge and applying a pulsed voltage waveform. This waveform includes a sequence of pulses, each having a higher voltage interval and a lower voltage interval having a voltage slope. First pulses of the sequence having differing voltage slopes are generated and applied to the dielectric substrate. For each first pulse, the voltage slope and a corresponding output current are determined. For each first pulse, at least one coefficient of a mathematical relation between the voltage slope and the corresponding output current based solely on the voltage slope and the output current determined for one or more of the first pulses is determined. A test function is applied and an optimal voltage slope value corresponding to the at least one coefficient making the test function true is selected.

Abstract: An electrical converter may include AC terminals, a first and second DC terminal, and converter modules. Each of the converter modules has an AC node. The second DC terminal forms a common node of the converter modules. A connection between the AC nodes of the converter modules and the AC terminals is reconfigurable allowing the electrical converter to operate according to a first mode of operation converting between a first AC signal having a first plurality of phase voltages and the DC signal, in which the converter modules are grouped in first groups, and according to a second mode of operation converting between a second AC signal having a single-phase voltage and the DC signal, in which the converter modules are rearranged in second groups. The electrical converter is configured to operate multiple converter modules assigned to a same group of the first groups and the second groups in parallel.

Abstract: A three-phase AC to DC converter includes a first converter stage for converting between three phase voltages at three phase terminals and a first signal at a first intermediate node and a second intermediate node. A phase selector is configured to selectively connect the three phase terminals to a third intermediate node. The converter includes a second converter stage, a DC link connecting the first and second converter stages, and a galvanically isolated DC/DC converter stage having a first side connected to output nodes of the second converter stage and a first common node. A second side of the DC/DC converter stage is galvanically isolated from the first side. The first common node is connected to the third intermediate node. The difference of a first current applied to the DC/DC converter at output nodes of the second converter stage is provided at the third intermediate node.

Abstract: An AC-DC converter includes three phase terminals, first and second DC terminals, a first converter stage for converting between the AC signal and a first signal at first and second intermediate nodes, a second converter stage to convert between a second signal at third and fourth intermediate nodes and the DC signal at the first and second DC terminals. The second converter stage has a first active switch. A link connects the first and third intermediate nodes and the second and fourth intermediate nodes. A current injection circuit has second active switches. In a first mode, the first active switch and the second active switches are operated through PWM. In a second mode, the third and fourth intermediate nodes are continuously connected to the first and second DC terminals such that the second converter stage is inoperative and the second active switches are operated through PWM.

Abstract: A multiphase converter topology is used for the transmission of electrical energy from an AC voltage input with m grid phase connections to a DC voltage output or vice versa. It has a power part with half-bridges for switching currents, an AC voltage filter between the power part and the AC voltage input, and DC voltage block(s) connected between the power part and the DC output. The AC voltage filter has alternating voltage filter stage(s) with m+1 input connections, m+1 output connections and a ground connection. The m grid phase connections are thereby connected in parallel to one another and form a first phase connection for the connection of a single-phase AC voltage. A neutral conductor connection of the AC voltage filter forms a neutral conductor connection of the AC voltage input and a second phase connection for the connection of the single-phase AC voltage.

Abstract: An electric field-reducing insulating layer is described for an inductive coil. In some examples, a first coil having at least one first winding is arranged for being driven at a first voltage. A solid insulating layer is adjacent the first coil and has a first surface facing the first coil. The first surface of the solid insulating layer has a first groove between the first winding and the insulating layer, having a width that is smaller than a diameter of the electrical wire. The first groove forms a pocket between the first winding and the solid insulating layer.

Abstract: A linear permanent magnet motor may include a stator unit having a coil, a mover including an array of permanent magnets, and a position sensing device operable to determine a position of the mover. The mover is arranged to move along a motion direction. The position sensing device has a sensing element operable to sense a magnetic field of the array of permanent magnets The sensing element is fixed to the stator unit. The array of permanent magnets is spaced apart from the stator unit by an air gap in which electromagnetic fields created by the array of permanent magnets and by coil are configured to interact thereby generating traction. The sensing element is positioned such that it is within a magnetic leakage field of the array of permanent magnets when the array of permanent magnets is positioned in correspondence with the sensing element.

Abstract: Electrical converters of the present disclosure feature a boost circuit that is fully integrated with a three phase bridge rectifier to allow for obtaining a pulsed voltage at the rectifier output. Actively switchable semiconductor switches of the boost circuit are controlled by pulse width modulation (PWM) control signals to obtain the pulsed voltage. PWM of this pulsed voltage allows control of two out of three currents at the three input terminals of the rectifier, i.e., the currents at the phase inputs having the highest and the lowest voltage levels of the three phase input voltage.
