摘要: A method for automatically provisioning a broadband communication service to a subscriber having a broadband modem. The method includes the step of transmitting a service request from the broadband modem to a central office, which is associated with a network service provider. The network is configured for service in response to the service request. The method further includes automatically configuring the broadband modem by transmitting a configuration signal from the central office to the subscriber. The configuration signal may be transmitted to the broadband modem over a POTS subchannel. Alternatively, the configuration signal may be transmitted to the broadband modem over a subchannel in a broadband service, such as a DMT subchannel for ADSL service.

摘要: A process for forming a composite intermetal dielectric, (IMD), layer, with reduced tensile stress, eliminating defects that can be induced by highly stressed, IMD layers, to underlying dielectric layers, and metal interconnect structures, has been developed. The process features the use of a capping, or overlying, silicon oxide component, obtained via PECVD procedures, using TEOS as a source, and using a set of power, and frequency conditions, resulting in a high compressive stress for the capping silicon oxide layer. The high compressive stress of the capping silicon oxide layer, balances the high tensile stress, inherent in an underlying silicon oxide component, of the composite IMD layer, eliminating stress related defects to underlying dielectric layers, and to underlying metal interconnect structures.

摘要: A method and system for mapping virtual connections to asymmetric digital subscriber line (“ADSL”) latency paths. A request for virtual connection from a transport network (e.g., Asynchronous Transport Mode, Frame Relay, etc.) with a desired service category (e.g., quality-of-service) and a desired latency is mapped to an ADSL device latency interface by checking a latency mapping policy. This mapping provides a virtual connection with a desired service category and a desired latency over ADSL links. The latency mapping includes an embedded service category mapping from a transport network to latency paths at an ADSL transmission convergence sub-layer allowing differential services to be provided for user data based on a desired service category. The latency mapping mechanism may help provide use of end-to-end service categories such as quality-of-service categories, over real-time ADSL links.

摘要: A computer processor/heat sink assembly in which a heat sink is provided extending adjacent a processor or electrical component to be cooled. The heat sink has a plurality of spaced fins having openings therein and is positioned in an air flow path so that the air flows through the openings to dissipate heat from the processor to the air. The assembly can also be positioned in a second position in the air flow path so that the air flows between the fins to dissipate heat from the processor to the air.

摘要: A technique for dissipating heat generated by a chip in a small, inexpensive, quiet, and reliable manner without drawing power from a power source. In a preferred embodiment, the chip resides in a computer housing and a heat dissipator for the chip is made up of a convection component and a conduction component. The convection component is similar to a conventional heat sink. It includes fins that channel a flow of air therethrough releasing heat into the air. The conduction component is a thermal conductor which attaches to a heat spreader. In the preferred embodiment, the heat spreader is part of the computer housing.

摘要: A method and apparatus simultaneously supporting a circuit board and dissipating heat from an electrical device on the circuit board. In a computer including the circuit board and a mother board connected to the circuit board, a heat dissipator not only dissipates any heat produced by the electrical device, but also secures the circuit board to the mother board. The heat dissipator includes three frame plates and two support plates, each made of a thermally conductive material. The first frame plate is directly connected to the electrical device. The first and second frame plates are proximate to and parallel with the front and back faces of the circuit board, respectively and the third frame plate connects the first and second frame plates. The first and second support plates attach the first and second frame plates, respectively, to the mother board.
