    摘要: A method and system for a handoff in a broadcast communication system is disclosed. A subscriber assisted handoff is impractical in a broadcast communication system due to e.g., a high signaling load, a difficulty to synchronize the broadcast transmission. On the other hand, the small number of broadcast channels enables the subscriber station to perform the handoff autonomously. To streamline the autonomous handoff decision process, several distinct sets of pilot identifiers and rules for transitioning among the sets are defined. To fully integrate broadcast services with the services provided by the cellular telephone systems in a subscriber environment, a method for various handoff scenarios are analyzed.

    摘要: A scroll-type compressor is provided in an inclined or inverted position with an oil sump disposed adjacent to a gas inlet of the scroll wraps to allow droplets of oil to be entrained in the gas being compressed so that the oil droplets in the gas can cool the scroll wraps. An oil injection fitting also extends through the compressor shell and communicates lubricating oil to a lubrication passage in the crankshaft for providing lubricant to the bearings of the crankshaft of the compressor and other components. The oil injection fitting is supplied with lubricant from an externally disposed source.

    摘要: A method for reducing call dropping rates in a multi-beam communication system. The multi-beam communication system includes a user terminal, a gateway, and a plurality of beam sources, where each beam source projects a plurality of beams, and where a communication link between the user terminal and the gateway is established on one or more beams. The method according to the present invention relies on a messaging protocol between the gateway and the user terminal. Based on messages sent from the user terminal to the gateway, preferably on a preselected periodic basis, the gateway can determine the more desirable beam(s) for transmitting data or information to the user terminal. The messages sent from the user terminal to the gateway contain values representing beam strengths as measured at the user terminal. The gateway uses the user terminal measured beam strengths to select the beams that should be used for transmitting data or information to the user terminal. The beams that should be used are the beams that if used will decrease the call dropping rates and provide a desired level of beam source diversity.

    摘要: A technique for spreading information signals in a spread spectrum communication system to provide increased signal acquisition speed. A first PN spreading code or code set is used to spread information signals along with a second PN spreading code sequence or function. The second PN code is synchronized with the first PN spreading code, but has a larger code period so that each code chip of the second PN code extends over the entire period of the first PN code. The longer period spreading code forms an outer code which helps provide unambiguous beam identification and easily acquired frame timing in the presence of dynamically changing signal path delay, improving signal acquisition.
