摘要： Disclosed are various forms of an active, isolated β-secretase enzyme in purified and recombinant form. This enzyme is implicated in the production of amyloid plaque components which accumulate in the brains of individuals afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. Recombinant cells that produce this enzyme either alone or in combination with some of its natural substrates (β-APPwt and β-APPsw-) are also disclosed, as are antibodies directed to such proteins. These compositions are useful for use in methods of selecting compounds that modulate β-secretase. Inhibitors of β-secretase are implicated as therapeutics in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease.

摘要： A supplemental restraint for a primary vehicle restraint system for an auto-rack railroad car which reduces or eliminates movement of the vehicle in the auto-rack railroad car. The supplemental restraint is adapted to be positioned on a grating between the tire of the vehicle and the primary restraint. One embodiment of the supplemental restraint includes a body and an expander connected to the body. After the primary restraint is locked in place on the grating, the expander of the supplemental restraint is expanded. The expansion causes a more secure engagement between the tire and the primary restraint. This causes a high level of engagement between the tire and the primary restraint system indirectly through the supplemental restraint. The supplemental restraint also maintains a higher contact area on the tire regardless of the position of the primary restraint.

摘要： A water based thixotropic adhesive gel is disclosed which consists essentially of: water; partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol, or wherein a portion of the polyvinyl alcohol is replaced with polyvinylpyrrolidone; a water-soluble high viscosity thickening agent polymer which is compatible with the polyvinyl alcohol and which imparts thixotropic properties to the gel; a water-soluble plasticizer for the polyvinyl alcohol; and a watersoluble defoamer in proportion of ingredients so that the viscosity of the adhesive will break down when a flexible tube or squeeze bottle dispenser is finger-pressed and have a sufficiently low viscosity to allow for easy extrusion from an orifice having a diameter of about 0.06 to 0.12 inches. When pressure is released, after the desired amount of adhesive has flown out of the dispenser, the adhesive quickly reverts to very close to its original gel state so that it will not run on a vertical surface on porous and semiporous surfaces such as paper. An article of manufacture is also provided whereby the adhesive gel containing the above ingredients is in a flexible dispenser from which the adhesive can be dispensed by finger-pressure.

摘要： A cyanoacrylate-based adhesive composition comprises 55-92% by weight of a 2-cyanoacrylate ester, preferably the ethyl ester, from 40-30% by weight of a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer and not more than 25% by weight of a plasticizer (the plasticizer may be omitted entirely). The copolymer is preferably a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/maleic acid terpolymer. The adhesive compositions have greatly reduced adhesion to skin, not forming strong skin bonds for at least 30 seconds, in contrast to conventional cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions which form, within in about one second bonds strong enough to tear skin.
