    摘要: This invention provides chlorohydrocarbyloxy phosphonate oligomers, organophosphonate oligomers, and processes for the preparation of such oligomers. The chlorohydrocarbyloxy phosphonate oligomers can be represented by the formula (IV) where R1 is a linear or branched hydrocarbylene group or oxygen-containing hydrocarbylene group, which hydrocarbylene group has about two to about twenty carbon atoms, or a hydrocarbylene group having at least one cycloaliphatic or aromatic ring; R2 is an alkyl group or an aromatic group; and n is a number from about 2 to about 20.

    摘要: Improved flame retardant additives are formed from (A) at least one bis(alkanoic acid ester) of a ring-brominated aromatic diester diol; (B) liquid alkylated triphenyl phosphate having an approximate average formula (RxPhO)3P═O) in which each R is, independently, a hydrogen atom or a C14 alkyl group and x is an average number in the range of about 0.2 to 3; and (C) at least one alicyclic phosphonate ester having 1, 2 or 3 phosphorus atoms in the molecule, at least one of which is part of an alicyclic ring system, and having a phosphorus content of at least about 15 wt %. Combinations of these components are well-suited for use in various polymers or resins, especially polyurethanes.

    摘要: Solid-state highly brominated compounds such as solid brominated flame retardants with bromine contents of at least about 60 wt % often contain occluded bromine. Because of their high bromine contents, such compounds have relatively low solubility in common organic solvents. Despite this low solubility, the content of occluded bromine in such solid brominated compounds is effectively reduced by agitating a concentrated agitated slurry of the compound in an inert solvent at a suitable temperature for at least about 1 hour. Thereafter, solids with reduced content of occluded bromine are isolated or recovered from the slurry. Novel products having substantially reduced or eliminated occluded bromine contents and other very desirable characteristics are also provided.

    摘要: Provided are methods for the preparation and purification of alkyl tetrahalophthalate esters by the reaction of a tetrahalophthalic compound with an alkanol in the presence of a titanate catalyst. More particularly, improved methods are provided for making and recovering an ester with little contamination by catalytic metal components and color bodies, and with little acidity, in a high yield from the esterification reaction by pretreating the starting materials to reduce the acidity thereof, reacting the starting materials in the presence of a titanate catalyst, stripping excess alcohol, hydrolyzing the catalyst, and filtering out solids to yield a high purity tetrahalophthalate ester product.

    摘要: A reduced methyl bromide process for making tetrabromobisphenol A in methanol, including: dissolving bisphenol-A in a methanol solvent to form a bisphenol-A methanol solution, adding bromine to the bisphenol-A methanol solution to brominate bisphenol-A and form tetrabromobisphenol A and hydrogen bromide, exposing the bisphenol-A methanol solution to an amount of a hydrogen peroxide agent to reduce the amount of methyl bromide co-product resulting from the bromination of bisphenol-A in methanol by reducing the amount of hydrogen bromide co-product available to react with the methanol, and collecting the resulting tetrabromobisphenol A product thus formed after the bromination is substantially complete.
