Abstract: An implantable medical device having barbs reducing in height and/or changing angle as the implantable medical device transitions for an expanded state to a constrained state is disclosed which may lessen the risk of injury associated with the removal and/or repositioning of a deployed device. Within the main body of the device may be positioned a plurality of fixation struts having an end secured to the main body and a barb end exiting the main body at a point of egress and extending radially outwards from the main body. The fixation struts may be secured to the main body such that the distance between the point of attachment of the secured end of a fixation strut and the respective point of egress from the main body its free barb forming end is greater in the constrained than expanded state.

Abstract: A medical implant for occluding a left atrial appendage may include an expandable framework configured to shift radially between a first configuration and a second configuration, and an occlusive element secured to the expandable framework. The framework includes a plurality of strut groups, each strut group comprising first and second joints, and first, second, and third struts. The first and second struts move laterally from a first position in the first configuration to a second position in the second configuration. The third strut is configured to shift radially from a first position in the first configuration to a second position in the second configuration. The first and second struts and a majority of the third struts of each strut group may be oriented parallel to each other in the first configuration and nonparallel to each other in the second configuration.

An implant may include a self-expanding support frame having a circumference and a central longitudinal axis, a membrane disposed over at least a portion of the support frame, and a plurality of anchors arranged into a first row and a second row such that the first row and the second row form a staggered pattern about the circumference of the support frame.

Abstract: An occlusion device (e.g., for treatment of the left atrial appendage) includes a framework and a biocompatible covering disposed over at least a part of the framework. The framework may include a proximal portion, a middle portion, and a distal portion, wherein: the proximal portion includes a first hub that has a fixed first diameter; the middle portion has a second diameter and includes a plurality of beams extending from the first hub to a distal portion, wherein each of the plurality of beams is connected to an adjacent beam by a first circumferentially extending column of strut pairs; and the distal portion has a third diameter. In one or more embodiments, the framework includes improved circumferential strength and minimizes foreshortening.

Abstract: A drug delivery device that uses centrifugal force to deliver a drug to a body lumen wall. The drug delivery device comprises an impeller that includes an impeller shaft; an impeller head at the distal end of the impeller shaft; a drug lumen; an impeller housing; and a housing shaft attached to the impeller housing. In use, the drug is advanced along the drug lumen to the impeller head; at least the impeller head is rotated so that when drug exits the drug lumen, the centrifugal force of the rotating impeller causes the drug to move radially outward from the drug delivery device, towards and into the body lumen wall.
