    摘要: A method includes acquiring a chemical sample and modulating the chemical sample at a frequency greater than a drift frequency of a sensor. The method also includes determining at least one of a presence and a concentration of the analyte within the modulated chemical sample using the sensor. Modulating the chemical sample could include alternately absorbing at least some of the analyte into a sorbent material and releasing at least some of the analyte from the sorbent material. Modulating the chemical sample could also include heating the sorbent material, absorbing part of the analyte into the sorbent material, and passing a remaining portion of the analyte into the sensor. Modulating the chemical sample could further include stopping the heating of the sorbent material, releasing the part of the analyte from the sorbent material, and passing the sample with the released part of the analyte into the sensor.

    摘要: An acoustic wave sensor system for monitoring the etch rate or etch ability of a selective material has an acoustic wave sensing device having a piezoelectric substrate and at least one electrode coupled to the substrate for generating a propagating acoustic wave and for detecting changes in frequency or other propagation characteristics of the acoustic wave. A selective material is disposed on the substrate. Changes in propagation characteristics of the wave caused by etching of the selective material by an etchant can be analyzed to evaluate the etching rate or etch ability of the selective material. The sensing system can have a wireless sensing device which device is mountable in an oil filter system for monitoring the corrosion of the engine. The sensing device can be configured as BAW, SH-SAW, SH-APM, FPM devices or other acoustic wave devices.

    摘要: Systems and methods are discussed that detect the position of an actuator. One aspect of the present invention includes a system to detect a position of an actuator. The system includes a magnetic source coupled to the actuator radiating a field, at least two sensors to generate a response based on angles of the field, and an analyzer receptive to the response to produce an enhanced position of the magnetic source. Such analysis occurs in the presence of undesired effects arising from misalignment of the at least two sensors. Another aspect of the present invention includes a method for detecting a position of an actuator. The method includes interpolating a response of at least two sensors to form a quantity. The quantity is indicative of a position of a magnetic source coupled to the actuator. The method further includes adjusting the quantity by selecting one of two compensation techniques. One compensation technique is based on maximum slopes of the response curve. Another compensation technique is based on minimum separation of a cubic fit of the response curve.

    摘要: A position determining apparatus including a magnet that is attached to a movable member which moves along a predefined path of finite length. An array of magnetic field transducers are located adjacent to the predefined path. The transducers provide a bipolar output signal as the magnet approaches, passes and moves away from each transducer. A correction mechanism is provided to correct for residual error caused by the non-linearity of the transducers. The correction mechanism preferably approximates the residual error with a predetermined function, and applies correction factors that correspond to the predetermined function to offset the residual error. By correcting for the non-linearity of the transducers, the length of the magnet may be reduced and/or the spacing of the transducers may be reduced.

    摘要: A method for representing digitized scanned image data obtained by a non-intrusive cross-sectional image generating device. By representing an original set of user-input data points in polar coordinates, such that all of the points lie in the upper two quadrants of the coordinate system, a cubic spline algorithm can be applied once to generate a series of polynomial functions that describe a curve connecting all of the input data points. The method also uses the calculated cubic spline coefficients for the initial curve to determine intermediate data points at each of which a uniform length perpendicular is constructed. By traversing each perpendicular a desired length, new data points equidistant from the initial curve are calculated, resulting in additional curves equidistant from the initial curve. Any of the curve representations generated can then be used to select pixels from the scanned image data to display a reformatted view of the original data.

    摘要: A capacitance-based moisture sensor may include a sleeve having an internal cavity, a container filled with soil or other material inserted into the internal cavity, and a pair of ring-shaped conductive bands around the exterior of the sleeve forming a capacitor and providing a frequency output. The rings positioned around a perimeter of the sleeve may be connected to a fixed inductor to form an oscillator with a variable frequency output. The sensor may be calibrated from the frequency output for each of a plurality of substances, measuring the volumetric water content for saturation of the material, and determining at least one fitting constant in an equation wherein volumetric water content is a function of the frequency output and a plurality of fitting constants.
