There is provided a quartz glass article having a surface treated with novel coating materials which provides a reduced chemistry, wherein the quartz glass surface having a reduced chemistry upon exposure to melted silicon or similarly corrosive environments, forms crystalline structures covering at least 75% of the coated surface of the quartz glass crucible. Said crystalline covered surface provides a more stable surface of contact with the silicon melt and the growth of single crystal silicon. In one embodiment of the invention, the coating material comprises at least a methyl group for providing at least one of a hydrogenated and a methylated surface on the coated surface, forming rosette structures, or other crystalline morphologies covering at last 80% of the coated surface. In another embodiment of the invention, the coating material is selected from at least one of an amine, an organosilane halogen and mixtures thereof.

A quartz crucible having reduced/controlled bubble content is disclosed, comprising an outer layer and an inner layer doped with elements and compounds that: a) react with oxygen and nitrogen at or near the fusion temperature of quartz; and b) form compounds that are thermally stable at temperatures of above 1400° C. and chemically stable in a SiO2 environment. A method to make a crucible having controlled bubble content is also disclosed, the method comprises the step of forming a crucible having an inner layer doped with a material that reacts with residual gases in the bubble such as nitrogen and oxygen and thus consume the gases in the bubbles and empty them in the fusion process.

A bonded structure including one or more substrates bonded together with a tackified amorphous poly-alpha-olefin adhesive composition. One method of making such a bonded structure is carried out by applying a tackified amorphous poly-alpha-olefin adhesive composition to one or more substrates at a temperature of about 170 degrees Celsius or lower, and joining the substrates to themselves or to one another. The bonded structure has a dynamic peel strength between about 400 and about 1000 grams per 25 millimeters. The bonding efficiency of the bonded structure renders the bonded structure suitable for incorporation into a variety of articles, including personal care products, health/medical products, and household/industrial product, for example.
