Counterweight means impose a force upon the wrap element in a radially inward direction which is substantially equal to the centrifugal force experienced thereby, whereby the contact force is made independent of the operating speed of the apparatus and self-compensating with respect to pressure conditions therein.

    摘要: This invention is an improved "Oldham coupling" for use in a scroll machine to prevent angular rotation of one of the scroll members relative to the other. The coupling is of simplified one-piece construction that can be stamped from sheet metal in a single operation. The preferred embodiment is an oval-shaped stamped ring having four tabs extending from its perimeter at 90.degree. intervals. Two of the tabs, at opposite sides of the ring, slidingly engage slots in one of the orbiting scroll members while the other two tabs slidingly engage slots disposed either in the stationary frame of the scroll machine or in the other scroll member.

    摘要: In a scroll compressor, means for maintaining the motion of an orbiting plate in fixed angular relationship to a stationary plate and for modulating the capacity of the compressor. The orbiting and stationary plates include intermeshed wrap elements of similar spiral shape about an axis. A coupling ring is slideably disposed between the plates and sealingly encloses the wrap elements. Four slots are provided in the coupling ring, aligned at right angles to each other and spaced apart around its inner circumference. Three segments, extending outward from the wrap elements, sealingly engage these slots. The fourth slot is engaged by a sliding key attached to one of the plates. The segments separate a first and a second fluid inlet and cooperate with the slots in the coupling ring to constrain the orbiting plate's motion in fixed angular relationship to the stationary plate. Valves on the first and second inlets are provided to control the flow of fluid to be compressed into the separate inlet volumes defined by the segments, thereby modulating the compressor's capacity.

    摘要: A scroll compressor having a suction chamber into which fluid is received substantially at suction pressure and a discharge chamber from which the fluid is discharged substantially at discharge pressure, including mutually engaged fixed and orbiting scroll members, in fluid communication with the suction and discharge chambers, an intermediate pressure chamber defined in part by one of fixed and orbiting scroll members, an oil reservoir, an electric motor, and a shaft operably coupling the motor and the orbiting scroll member. The shaft is provided with a longitudinal passageway extending longitudinally therethrough, the longitudinal passageway in fluid communication with the oil reservoir and provided with oil therefrom. The shaft is provided with a first passage in fluid communication with the longitudinal passageway and which extends substantially laterally outward from the longitudinal passageway to a radially outer surface of the shaft. A roller is disposed about the shaft radially outer surface, the orbiting scroll member linked to the shaft through the roller. The roller is provided with inner and outer circumferential surfaces and a second passage extending therebetween, the first and second passages in fluid communication, whereby oil from the oil reservoir is provided to the roller outer circumferential surface through the longitudinal passageway and the first and second passages. A bearing is disposed between the roller outer circumferential surface and the orbiting scroll member. An oil receiving space is provided adjacent the bearing, the oil receiving space defined in part by a surface provided on the orbiting scroll member which is opposite its substantially planar surface, an axially facing surface of the roller, and an end surface of the shaft. The intermediate pressure chamber and the oil receiving space are substantially out of fluid communication. Oil is provided from the second passage to the oil receiving space through the bearing. A third passage extends between the oil receiving space and an intermediate pressure space between the fixed and orbiting involute wrap elements, and oil is provided to the intermediate pressure space from the oil receiving space through the third passage.

    摘要: A valve for regulating pressure intermediate suction and discharge pressure in a scroll compressor having an axially sealing interface between a fixed and orbiting scroll member through which the axial relationship between the scroll members may be controlled. The scroll members are axially biased together by refrigerant gas at a pressure intermediate the suction and discharge pressures and which is disposed in an intermediate pressure chamber defined in part by a generally planar surface of the orbiting scroll member. A self-regulating sliding valve, actuated by forces exerted on axial valve surfaces by suction, discharge and intermediate gas pressures, controls the amount of intermediate gas pressure in the intermediate gas pressure chamber. An annular groove in fluid communication with a longitudinal bore within the valve body and which opens to the intermediate pressure chamber is moved between a first position, in which the annular valve groove communicates with a passage to the compressor discharge pressure chamber, and a second position, in which the annular valve groove communicates with a passage to the compressor suction pressure chamber, placing the intermediate pressure chamber in communication with the discharge and suction pressure chambers, respectively. A third position, intermediate the first and second positions, seals the intermediate pressure chamber. Hence the axial engagement force exerted between the fixed and orbiting scroll members is controlled and a constant wrap to face clearance between the fixed and orbiting scroll members is maintained.

    摘要: In a hermetic compressor, a seal extending between a suction port and a second port in fluid communication with an internal chamber disposed adjacent an electric motor. The seal includes a cylindrical tubular member, one end of which slidingly fits within the suction port. A slotted conical flange on the other end of the tubular member fits around the port on the chamber. When a suction line is attached to the suction port with a threaded nut and fitting, it abuts against the projecting end of the tubular member, forcing the cone-shaped flange on the other end of the tubular member to flatten slightly as it seats against the external surface of the chamber. Most of the suction fluid entering the suction port flows through the tubular member into the chamber and through the electric motor to cool it. The compliant flange on the seal allows substantial tolerance in the spacing and angular displacement of the port in the internal chamber relative to the suction port in the shell. This minimizes alignment problems during both compressor assembly and operation.

    摘要: A scroll compressor in which a fluid compressed by the machine is applied to one side of an orbiting scroll plate to provide an axial sealing force directed toward an opposing stationary scroll plate. Intermeshed involute wrap elements on facing surfaces of the two scroll plates define pockets in which the fluid is compressed as a motor drives one of the plates in an orbital motion relative to the other. Both the motor and scroll plates are enclosed in a hermetic shell. The volume enclosed by the shell is divided by the driven scroll plate and an internal supporting frame into one part that is at suction pressure and another part at discharge pressure. A seal extending from the frame abuts the back side of the driven scroll plate and defines the relative areas of that plate which are exposed to suction and discharge pressure. The net force resulting from these pressures acts on the orbiting plates, biasing it toward the stationary plate to provide axial sealing between the involute wrap elements and the scroll plates.
