摘要: The invention disclosed here teaches methods and apparatus for altering the temporal and spatial shape of an optical pulse. The methods correct for the spatial beam deformation caused by the intrinsic DC index gradient in a volume holographic chirped reflective grating (VHCRG). The first set of methods involves a mechanical mean of pre-deforming the VHCRG so that the combination of the deflection caused by the DC index gradient is compensated by the mechanical deformation of the VHCRG. The second set of methods involves compensating the angular deflection caused by the DC index gradient by retracing the diffracted beam back onto itself and by re-diffracting from the same VHCRG. Apparatus for temporally stretching, amplifying and temporally compressing light pulses are disclosed that rely on the methods above.

摘要: The disclosed invention is an external cavity laser with a volume holographic VHG output coupler. The facet of the VHG is coated with a very high reflectivity coating (HR close to 100%) for the purpose of reflecting the second harmonic (SH) light generated intra-cavity. The HR coating for the SH light has also an anti-reflection (AR) coating at the fundamental wavelength. The reflected second harmonic (SH) light is either reflected directly out of the cavity by the VHG or back to the cavity towards the optics that deflect the SH light out of the cavity.

The invention enables the observation of the Raman signal near the excitation wavelength (˜9 cm−1) with the compactness of standard thin film/holographic notch filter. The novelty is contacting several individual volume holographic blocking notch filter (VHBF) to form one high optical density blocking filter without creating spurious multiple diffractions that degrade the filter performance. Such ultra-narrow-band VHBF can be used in existing compact Raman instruments and thus will help bring high-end research to a greater number of users at a lower cost.

摘要: The laser diode (11) of the electro-optical device (10) is frequency-controlled with the aid of a control module (40) comprising a rubidium cell (41) and an optical sensor (42), as well as a further module (43) for controlling the injection current and/or the temperature of the laser diode. A controlling light beam (18) is conveyed by means of a multi-mode optical fiber (14) to the rubidium cell. The optical sensor measures the intensity of the light beam transmitted by the rubidium cell and supplies a signal used by the further module for regulating the injection current and/or the temperature of the laser diode so as to stabilize the frequency of the light (16) emitted. The optical fiber is coupled to the laser module in such a way as to collect part of the light (16, 21) emitted by the front face of the laser diode and reflected by a lens (12) in front of the laser diode. The diode-lens assembly is heat controlled. Feedback in the laser diode and the power supplied to the laser diode are reduced, and the control device is simplified. The device finds application particularly in interferometry, atomic frequency oscillators, spectroscopy, and fiber optics data transmission.

摘要: Narrow-line holographic filters that can include a plurality of lines and that can be structured to provide a large aperture device. Materials that can be used to construct filters include glasses, photorefractive crystals such as lithium niobate and photorefractive thick polymers. The filters are fabricated by assembling a plurality of elements having the same one or more narrow line holographic filter patterns written thereon, in mutual orientation such that each element has a surface defined by a length and a width adjacent a corresponding surface of a neighboring element, and has a surface defined by a thickness and one of a length and a width accessible to impinging illumination. Filters exhibiting a plurality of characteristic narrow lines, and having arbitrarily large apertures can be fabricated. Methods of fabricating and using the filters are described.
