    摘要: The invention is a water-soluble N,N-diallyl-N-alkyl-N-(sulfoalkyl) ammonium betaine containing copolymer, wherein said copolymer is formed from the polymerization of an N,N-diallyl-N-alkyl-N-(sulfoalkyl) ammonium betaine of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl and aryl groups, and R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups, aryl groups, and alkylaryl groups, and an anionic monomer. The invention is also a method of inhibiting the precipitation and deposition of scale on metal surfaces in contact with industrial cooling waters comprising the addition of an effective, scale-inhibiting amount of a water-soluble N,N-diallyl-N-alkyl-N-(sulfoalkyl) ammonium betaine containing copolymer, wherein said copolymer is formed from the polymerization of a betaine of the formula: ##STR2## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl and aryl groups, and R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups, aryl groups, and alkylaryl groups, and an anionic monomer. A preferred polymer is a water-soluble copolymer of N,N-diallyl-N-methyl-N-(2-sulfoethyl) ammonium betaine and acrylic acid.

    摘要: New zinc stabilizing polymers containing at least 5 mole percent of a monomer represented by the structure: ##STR1## wherein: R is independently, at each occurrence, chosen from H and lower (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl groups;R' is a hydrocarbonaceous bridging group containing from 1-12 carbon atoms;X is chosen from --SO.sub.3 M, --OH, --COOM groups or mixtures thereof,M is hydrogen or some other cation species; andn ranges from 1-10,are described. Also, the use of these polymers in combination with zinc salts, and in further combination with phosphate salts, to inhibit corrosion of iron containing metals, and other metals, when these metals are exposed to industrial waters is demonstrated. Deposit control or scale inhibition on these metals exposed to industrial waters is also observed.

    摘要: The invention is a method of making water-insoluble aliphatic primary or secondary amines, water-soluble or dispersible, which comprises reacting at a temperature of at least 120.degree. C. these amines with water-soluble acrylamide polymer which contains at least 5 mole percent acrylamide to transamidate not more than 50% mole percent of the acrylamide polymer with the water-insoluble aliphatic primary or secondary amine. The invention also covers a water-soluble or dispersible polymeric composition comprising an acrylic acid polymer having a molecular weight within the range of 500-100,000 which contains between 0.5-50 mole percent of the acrylic acid groups in the form of the amides of a water-insoluble aliphatic primary or secondary amine which contains from 10-36 carbon atoms.
