Abstract: A two-dimensional VCSEL array may include a VCSEL array including a VCSELs arranged in a two dimensional matrix forming a monolithic structure, a light-emitting surface, and a rear surface, first metal contacts provided on the light-emitting surface; and second metal contacts provided on the rear surface. The VCSELs may be arranged in first lines in a first direction and second lines in a second direction non-parallel to the first direction. Each of the first metal contacts may be electrically connected to each VCSEL of a corresponding first line. Each of the plurality of second metal contacts may be electrically connected to each VCSEL of a corresponding second line. The first metal contacts and second metal contacts may be arranged such that each combination of a first metal contact and a second metal contact is electrically connected to one VSCEL.

Abstract: A multi-wavelength array lidar system and a method of designing an array lidar system include arranging a plurality of lasers in an array to transmit a respective plurality of beams, arranging a lens to disperse the plurality of beams at a respective plurality of angles, and arranging a band pass filter to filter a plurality of reflections received at a respective plurality of incident angles resulting from the plurality of beams transmitted by the plurality of lasers at a respective plurality of transmit angles. Selecting a transmit wavelength of each of the plurality of beams is based on the respective plurality of transmit angles to ensure that a receive wavelength of each of the plurality of reflections is within a narrower range than a range of the transmit wavelengths.

Abstract: A LiDAR sensor having particular application for use on a vehicle. The LiDAR sensor includes a plurality of spaced apart VCSEL arrays each including a single lens, where the lens for each VCSEL array directs the beam of the particular laser in the array that is illuminated in a desired direction so that turning on and off of the lasers in each array creates a scanning effect. The number and the size of the VCSEL arrays are selected to provide the desired FOV for the sensor, where the VCSEL arrays can be positioned on a curved platform to provide that FOV. The sensor also includes one or more detectors for detecting reflections of the laser beams emitted by the lasers. Control electronics are provided to scan the laser beams and generate a three-dimensional point cloud of return image points.

Abstract: A vehicle, detection system and method for detecting a location of an object with respect to a vehicle is disclosed. The method includes transmitting, at the vehicle, a structured light pattern at a selected frequency into a volume that includes the object and receiving, at a detector of the vehicle, a reflection of the light pattern from the volume. A processor determines a deviation in the reflection of the structured light pattern due to the object in the volume and determines a location of the object in the volume from the deviation.
