Abstract: A hybridized lithium-ion battery that includes one or more positive electrode assemblies is provided. Each of the one or more positive electrode assemblies includes a positive electrode current collector and one or more positive electroactive material layers disposed on one or more surfaces of the positive electrode current collector. The hybridized lithium-ion battery also includes two or more negative electrode current collectors, and one or more negative electroactive material layers disposed on one or more surfaces of at least one of the two or more negative electrode current collectors, where a total number of the one or more positive electroactive material layers is greater than a total number of negative electroactive material layers. The hybridized lithium-ion battery also includes two or more separating layers physically separating the positive electrode assemblies and the negative electroactive material layers or the positive electrode assemblies and the negative electrode current collectors.

Abstract: An electrochemical cell that cycles lithium ions is provided. The electrochemical cell includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and an electrolyte layer disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. The first electrode includes a first plurality of solid-state electroactive material particles and a first polymeric gel electrolyte, where the first polymeric gel electrolyte includes a first additive. The second electrode includes a second plurality of solid-state electroactive material particles and a second polymeric gel electrolyte that is different from the first polymeric gel electrolyte, where the second polymeric gel electrolyte includes a second additive. The electrolyte layers include a third polymeric gel electrolyte that is different from both the first polymeric gel electrolyte and the second polymeric gel electrolyte.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for forming a bipolar current collector. The method may include heating a first current collector material having a first melting point to form a molten metal or metal alloy and disposing the molten metal or metal alloy on one or more surfaces of a second current collector material having a second melting point greater than the first melting point to form the bipolar current collector. The molten metal or metal alloy may be disposed on the one or more surfaces of the second current collector material using a twin-roll casting method or a spraying method. The bipolar current collector may include a first current collector including the first current collector material, a second current collector including the second current collector material, and an inter-diffusion layer that connects the first current collector and the second current collector.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a solid-state bipolar battery that includes negative and positive electrodes having thicknesses between about 100 μm and about 3000 μm, and a solid-state electrolyte layer disposed between the negative electrode and the positive electrode and having a thickness between about 5 μm and about 100 μm. The first electrode includes a plurality of negative solid-state electroactive particles embedded on or disposed within a first porous material. The second electrode includes plurality of positive solid-state electroactive particles embedded on or disposed within a second porous material that is the same or different from the first porous material. The solid-state bipolar battery includes a first current collector foil disposed on the first porous material, and a second current collector foil disposed on the second porous material. The first and second current collector foils may each have a thickness less than or equal to about 10 μm.
