Abstract: A spray gun includes a gun body and valves configured to control flow of material and air through the gun body. A trigger is mounted to the gun body and is disposed relative to the valves such that the trigger actuates the valves in sequence to begin air flow and material flow. A sensor senses when the trigger is in an actuated state and the sensor causes a pump to begin pumping material to the spray gun. Release of the trigger causes the trigger to leave the actuated state. A detent mechanism holes the trigger in a detent state intermediate the actuated state and a resting state. The sensor does not sense the trigger with the trigger in the detent state. The trigger maintains the valves open with the trigger in the detent state.

Abstract: A wear sleeve is removably mounted on a piston rod. The piston rod includes a piston cap, a piston rod body, and a piston head, with at least one of the piston cap and the piston head being removable from the piston rod body. The wear sleeve is disposed over the piston rod body and prevents the piston rod from contacting dynamic seals disposed within a pump. The wear sleeve is mechanically secured in a cylindrical recess on the piston rod between a cap shoulder of the piston cap and a head shoulder of the piston head.

Abstract: A packing or seal stack for a pump includes alternating first type and second type packing rings of polymer material such as ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The first and second type packing rings have essentially identical geometry, and the second type packing rings are lubricant filled polymer material. The geometry of the packing rings creates, when the packing rings are stacked, contact points that are positioned in a core area near a body center line of the ring bodies. Gaps are formed so that the packing rings do not contact one another near the inner and outer radial portions of the packing rings.

Abstract: A piston rod (27) for a spray fluid pump includes an interior pumping chamber (40), one or more channels (50) formed on the exterior of the piston rod, and one or more side bores (32) extending through the piston rod and in fluid communication with the interior piston chamber and one or more channels. The one or more channels (50) extend at least partially axially and are open along a length of the channel. The one or more channels are angled offset with respect to the reciprocation axis for imparting a rotational moment on the piston rod to cause rotation of the piston rod during reciprocation of the piston rod. A spray fluid pump comprising such piston rod is also disclosed.
