    摘要: A proximity sensor measures receptor output with an energy source deactivated. The sensor then measures receptor output with the energy source activated. The measurements with the energy source activated are compared to the measurements with the energy source deactivated to compensate for the effect of ambient conditions. A near condition is recognized if the change between the two groups of measurements exceeds a designated value. To compensate for receptor output that may decrease after reaching a peak value during approach of an object, a near condition can be maintained until the change between the two groups of measurements no longer exceeds a different designated value. Multiple sensors can be used to avoid false near conditions caused by, e.g., placing a device equipped with the sensors next to a stationary object. In one embodiment, a sensor comprises an infrared light emitting diode and a phototransistor.

    摘要: A method is provided for measuring torque in a shaft of a drive line including a disc coupling component such as a flexplate 1 or a flanged coupling 13, as well as a drive coupling system for carrying out the method. The disc coupling component 1, 13 is connected between a drive input 4 and a drive output so that all torque transmitted between the input and output passes through said component. The disc coupling component 1, 13 has a radially extending portion, which may include a plurality of spokes 7, to which is attached a SAW based strain sensor which communicates with a stationary coupler 3 fastened to an engine block 5 for wireless transmission of data from the sensor, the strain sensor measuring the strain in the disc coupling component 1, 13 from which the torque carried in the input shaft 4 may be calculated.

    摘要: A terahertz radiation mixer comprises a heterodyned field-effect transistor (FET) having a high electron mobility heterostructure that provides a gatable two-dimensional electron gas in the channel region of the FET. The mixer can operate in either a broadband pinch-off mode or a narrowband resonant plasmon mode by changing a grating gate bias of the FET. The mixer can beat an RF signal frequency against a local oscillator frequency to generate an intermediate frequency difference signal in the microwave region. The mixer can have a low local oscillator power requirement and a large intermediate frequency bandwidth. The terahertz radiation mixer is particularly useful for terahertz applications requiring high resolution.

    摘要: A media feeder for feeding media items includes a moveable media side guide. A force limiting mechanism is coupled to move the side guide such that the side guide can be moved into engagement with media items with a force that will not exceed a predetermined level. A second mechanism is coupled to move the side guide a predetermined distance away from the media items. In one arrangement a first and a second moveable media side guides are mounted adjacent a media elevator platform. A first force limiting drive means is connected to a side guide adjustment mechanism operable to cause the guides toward or away from each other. A second drive means is connected to the side guide adjustment mechanism and is operable to cause the side guide adjustment mechanism to move the guides such that a predefined gap is established between the media items on the platform and the side guides after the side guides are moved into engagement with the media items. The second drive means may be operated by movement of an operator operable member such as cover for a media elevator platform housing. The feeder side guides may be adjusted to the predefined gap by a method that includes the opening and closing of the of the media elevator platform housing cover.
