    摘要: Virtually uncrosslinked polyacetylenes in film form are prepared by polymerization of acetylene using a liquid catalyst system consisting of an organicaluminum compound and a titanate in the form of a solution in a viscous inert liquid on a substrate to which the catalyst solution is applied, by a process in which, after the polymerization, the polymer is treated with a strong reducing agent which is inert to the organoaluminum catalyst component, the polymer is, if desired, oriented and is freed from residual catalyst and reducing agent by washing with a liquid, doped with a strong electron acceptor or electron donor in a conventional manner to increase the conductivity and dried, and the materials thus obtained are, if desired, covered with a layer or sheath of nonconductive material.

    摘要: Self-extinguishing molding materials, comprising (A) a polymer of a vinyl-aromatic compound, especially a styrene polymer, which has been made impact-resistant (B) a polyphenylene ether and (C) a flameproofing additive, with or without (D) conventional additives, wherein one part of the soft component of the impact-resistant polymer of the vinyl-aromatic compound has a mean particle size of .ltoreq.1.5 .mu.m and the other part has a mean particle size of .ltoreq.3 .mu.m. Such molding materials not only have good self-extinguishing properties but also give moldings having a particularly uniform matt surface.

    摘要: A process for the preparation of high molecular weight polyphenylene ethers from monohydric phenols which have alkyl substituents in both ortho-positions and may additionally have an alkyl substituent in one meta-position but not in the para-position, by an oxidative coupling reaction, employing oxygen, at from 10.degree. to 25.degree. C., in the presence of a catalyst complex comprising a copper salt and an N-substituted imidazole, in the presence of an aromatic C.sub.8 -C.sub.10 -hydrocarbon solvent.N-Methylimidazole, N-ethylimidazole, N-isopropylimidazole, N-n-butylimidazole, N-cyclohexylimidazole, N-octylimidazole and N-phenylimidazole are preferably used as the imidazole, advantageously in amounts of from 0.5 to 5 percent by weight.

    摘要: Thermoplastic molding compositions based on rubber-modified styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers containing a halogenated styrene oligomer as the effective flame-proofing agent which is sufficiently heat-stable, does not interfere with processing on conventional machinery, does not corrode or cause coatings on such machinery, and has virtually no adverse effect on the impact strength of the polymers. The flameproofing agent as a rule has a degree of polymerization of from 3 to 200 and can be incorporated into the polymer by conventional methods; the polymer may or may not contain additional synergistic agents and processing auxiliaries, which are incorporated in the conventional manner and in the conventional amounts.

    摘要: New compounds containing tribromomethyl groups, of the general formula ##STR1## WHEREIN X is chlorine or bromine, R is hydrogen or methyl and R.sup.1 is hydrogen or a group of the formula --COO--CHX--CBr.sub.3 and a process for their preparation. The compounds may be used for the manufacture of homopolymers or copolymers which find diverse uses, eg. for the manufacture of moldings, coatings or adhesives. The compounds are manufactured by reacting the corresponding acid chlorides or acid bromides with equivalent amounts of tribromoacetaldehyde. The acid chlorides and bromides have the formula ##STR2## wherein X is chlorine or bromine, R is hydrogen or methyl and R.sup.2 is hydrogen or --COX. The reaction is carried out in the presence of from 0.1 to 10 per cent by weight of a Lewis acid, preferably AlBr.sub.3 or FeBr.sub.3, at from 0 to 80.degree. C., generally with reaction times of from 1 to 10 hours, preferably from 2 to 3 hours. The reaction is carried out without solvents or, with particular advantage, in a solution, of about 50 per cent strength, in an inert aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic solvent, eg. hexane mixtures, octane mixtures, cyclohexane or toluene. From 0.1 to 10 per cent by weight of magnesium oxide is added to the reaction mixture, prior to the distillation to achieve good yields and compound purity.
