    摘要: A communication system for use with a network for transmitting fixed-length cells from a transmitting terminal via a virtual connection in the network to a receiving terminal. The communication system includes a converting device, connected to the transmitting terminal or the receiving terminal, for performing a bi-directional conversion between a variable-length packet and the fixed-length cells, the transmitting terminal or the receiving terminal outputting the variable-length packet, a buffer capacity monitoring device in the receiving terminal for monitoring a capacity of a buffer in the receiving terminal receiving the fixed-length cells and for outputting an alarm signal at the time of detecting a congestion state of the capacity of the buffer, a congestion state alerting device in the receiving terminal responsive to the alarm signal from the buffer capacity monitoring device for outputting an alert signal to the transmitting terminal, and a traffic transmission control device in the transmitting terminal responsive to the alert signal from the congestion state alerting device in the receiving terminal for controlling a transmission of the fixed-length cells to the receiving terminal.

    摘要: An optical cross-connect device for optical networks is connected to reserve optical transmission lines and working optical transmission lines, and is used to switch optical signals. The optical cross-connect device includes a bypass component, a routing component and connection links. The bypass component includes an optical-space switch that is connected to the reserve optical transmission lines. The routing component also includes an optical-space switch that is connected to the working optical transmission lines. The connection links are connected between both input and output parts of the optical-space switch of both the bypass component and the routing component.

    摘要: An optical switch having a plurality of switch cells. The optical switch has n inputs (n is a natural number) and m outputs (m is a natural number). The optical switch has a unit size defined as the distance between any two adjacent ones of the switch cells. The optical switch comprises a substrate having a switch size of K×L (K is an integer satisfying n≦K, and L is an integer satisfying m≦L), first and second mirrors parallel to each other and perpendicular to a principal surface of the substrate, and an optical unit providing a plurality of input optical paths for the n inputs and a plurality of output optical paths for the m outputs. The plurality of input optical paths are inclined relative to the first and second mirrors, and the plurality of output optical paths are inclined relative to the first and second mirrors. Each switch cell comprises a switch mirror provided movably relative to the substrate. With this configuration, the path dependence of loss is substantially eliminated.

This device is suitable for construction of a large-scale optical network supporting an increase in number of wavelengths.
