摘要: The present invention relates to a non-contact, non-destructive measuring apparatus that measures thickness profile and refractive index distribution of a single or multiple layers of thin films by means of the principle of reflectometry. According to the present invention, by employing more than one narrow band-pass optical filters and a two-dimensional array of CCD sensors, and by finding an optimal solution for the nonlinear functional relationship between the thickness of said thin film or thin films and the corresponding refractive indexes by using an iterative numerical computation method, said apparatus simultaneously measures local area-wise thickness profile and refractive index distribution among others of said a single layer or multiple layers of thin films on a substrate.

摘要: The present invention relates to a high-density optical disk having thin film layer made from a thermochromic polymer with a red-shift which exhibits self-focusing and optical bleaching. After an incident light beam passes through the polymer medium, not only can the spot size of the beam be reduced but also transmittance can be enhanced due to these kinds of third-order nonlinear optical response. Thus, a high-density disk structured according to the present invention is capable of the signal reproduction resolution beyond the diffraction limit with an efficient reflectivity. Accordingly, data recording density of a high-density disk can be improved greatly.

摘要: A method and apparatus of converting a series of data words into modulated signals generates for each data word, a number of intermediate sequences by combining mutually different digital words with that data word, scrambles the intermediate sequences to form alternative sequences, translates each alternative sequence into a (d,k) constrained sequence, measures for each (d,k) constrained sequence, not only an inclusion rate of undesired sub-sequence but also a running DSV (Digital Sum Value), and selects one (d,k) constrained sequence having small inclusion rate for recording on an optical or magneto-optical recording medium among the (d,k) constrained sequences having maximum value of running DSV. smaller than a preset limit. Accordingly, efficient DSV control can be achieved for even relatively-long sequences.

摘要: The present invention relates to method and apparatus of converting a series of data words into modulated signals. This method generates for each data word a number of intermediate sequences by combining mutually different digital words with that data word, scrambles these intermediate sequences, translates each scrambled sequence into a (d,k) constrained sequence, detects running digital sum (RDS) every bit for each translated (d,k) constrained sequence while counting sign changes of each RDS, selects one sequence of which RDS changes most in sign among the (d,k) constrained sequences after discarding every sequence of which maximum value of RDS is beyond a preset threshold, and records the selected sequence onto a recordable medium such as an optical disk or a magneto-optical disk. The present invention can suppress DC component more remarkably in case that a sequence becomes longer.

摘要: An optical pickup apparatus that can adaptive for a plurality types of optical discs different in the layout condition such as a recording density, etc. and an optical recording/reproducing apparatus employing the optical pickup apparatus. In the optical pickup apparatus, first and second light sources generate a different wavelength of light beams. An optical system allows a light beam generated from any one of the first and second light sources to be selectively irradiated onto the optical disc and have an aperture number controller allowing the number of aperture of a light beam to have a different value. A photo detector detects the light beam reflected from the optical disc to be accessed to convert the same into an electrical signal. The apparatus is capable of accessing three types of optical discs different in the layout condition by utilizing an appropriate combination of a wavelength of the light beam with the number of aperture.
