Abstract:
Method and apparatus for preparing and displaying images uses image characteristics of an area of interest of images to optimize or otherwise determine image characteristics of the entire image to be displayed. The area of interest information may be used in computing an SSBC profile for the area of interest, and the SSBC profile may be used to adjust the image signal to provide an image in which the image characteristics, e.g., are optimized for the image at the area of interest. The image characteristics and/or SSBC profile information may be provided as metadata included in a video signal data stream. The area of interest may be selected where the image is obtained, where the image is shown or elsewhere, e.g., in an image storage device, image player, etc.

A switch activating system for an automatically darkening lens system and an automatically darkening lens system including such a switch activating system, includes a cover plate through at least part of which a scene may be viewed, a support, a pair of switch electrodes, one switch electrode positioned in relatively fixed relation with said support, the other switch electrode being positioned for movement with respect to said one switch electrode selectively to make electrical connection therewith in response to deflecting of said cover plate. The automatically darkening lens assembly also includes a controllable light shutter for controlling transmission of light for viewing therethrough, and a circuit for operating said light shutter and affecting operating characteristics thereof. A method for operating an auto-darkening welding lens including an operating circuit includes selecting an operational characteristic of the welding lens by setting a characteristic of the circuit, said setting comprising deflecting a mechanical member of the welding lens to operate a switch.
Abstract:
A sensor circuit for detecting light hazards or bright light sources that will cause discomfort. The sensor and sensor electronics which provide a wide sensitivity range which is fully automatically adjustable, and which has the ability to detect point sources of light. The sensor further has the ability to distinguish low power stable light generated from a small welding arc from bright ambient light or even direct sunlight.

A light control device includes a light shutter having a pair of polarizers and a liquid crystal device operative in response to a prescribed input to control transmission of light therethrough, and a variable polarizer optically aligned with respect to said light shutter and operative to control light transmitted therethrough in response to a prescribed input; the light shutter is operative relatively fast in response to application of electric field to reduce light transmission and the variable polarizer is operative in the event of a power loss, which would cause the light shutter to stop light blocking, to provide a safety light blocking function. The light control device may be employed in a welding helmet or other device intended to provide protection to the eyes of an individual or other animate or inanimate object from selected electromagnetic energy, such as that produced by welding or other source.
