Abstract: An implant retention device is provided to assist in restraining movement of a nuclear implant and to assist in preventing expulsion of the nuclear implant through an incision portal or defect in the annular wall. In general, the implant retention device blocks or obstructs at least a portion of an opening in the annular wall, thereby keeping the implant from exiting the nuclear space through the annular opening. In one form, the implant retention device comprises an expulsion prevention member positioned adjacent the nuclear implant and configured to transition between a compressed position and an expanded position. In another form, the implant retention device may comprise a mounting portion to be positioned adjacent one of the vertebral bodies, a blocking portion for at least partially obstructing the annular opening, and an end projection at a terminal end of the blocking portion to resist expulsion of the implant through the annular opening. In yet another form, the implant retention device may include an elongate blocking member having annulus connector portions extending from each side of the blocking member for engaging with an annular wall.

Abstract: Methods and systems of maintaining, evaluating, and providing therapy to a lung ex vivo. The methods and systems involve positioning the lung in an ex vivo perfusion circuit; circulating a perfusion fluid through the lung, the fluid entering the lung through a pulmonary artery interface and leaving the lung through a left atrial interface; and ventilating the lung by flowing a ventilation gas through a tracheal interface. Maintaining the lung for extended periods involves causing the lung to rebreath a captive volume of air, and reaching an equilibrium state between the perfusion fluid and the ventilation gas. Evaluating the gas exchange capability of the lung involves deoxygenating the perfusion fluid and measuring a time taken to reoxygenate the perfusion fluid by ventilating the lung with an oxygenation gas.

Abstract: An implant device is provided that is configured for implantation at multiple locations between adjacent vertebrae. The implant device comprises an implant body, a first portion of the implant body, and a second portion of the implant body adjustably interconnected with the first portion. Abstract: An approach for minimizing variation in transmit power of synchronized signals that are destined to a satellite is disclosed. A gateway station system for communicating with a communication satellite includes a multiple signal sources which generate the synchronized signals. The gateway station system utilizes a control logic that is coupled to the signal sources. The control logic operates to offset selectively transmission times of a portion of the synchronized signals according to a predetermined distribution and an offset period. The predetermined distribution specifies about half the number of the synchronized signals are to be offset. The offset period is half a symbol period. The terminals within the satellite communication system has a receiver that receives the synchronized signal from the communication satellite. Each of the terminals also includes an offset-determination logic that is coupled to the receiver and determines whether the synchronized signals are offset based upon a received assignment message. The assignment message has a control flag field that indicates whether the received signal is offset.
