Abstract:
An embodiment of a wellbore cable comprises a cable core, at least a first armor wire layer comprising a plurality of strength members and surrounding the cable core, and at least a second armor wire layer comprising a plurality of strength members surrounding the first armor wire layer, the second armor wire layer covering a predetermined percentage of the circumference of the first armor wire layer to prevent torque imbalance in the cable.
Abstract:
A hydrocarbon application cable of reduced nylon with increased flexibility and useful life. The cable may be of a hose or solid configuration and particularly beneficial for use in marine operations. A power and data communicative core of the cable may be surrounded by a lightweight intermediate polymer layer of a given hardness which is ultimately then surrounded by an outer polymer jacket having a hardness that is greater than the given hardness. Thus, a lighter weight polymer is provided interior of the outer polymer jacket, which may be of nylon or other suitably hard material. As such, the overall weight and cost of the cable may be substantially reduced.
Abstract:
Wellbore electrical cables include at least one insulated conductor, at least one layer of armor wires surrounding the insulated conductor, and a polymeric material disposed in the interstitial spaces formed between armor wires and interstitial spaces formed between the armor wire layer and insulated conductor which may further include wear resistance particles or even short fibers, and the polymeric material may further form a polymeric jacket around an outer, layer of armor wires. The insulated conductor is formed from a plurality of metallic conductors encased in an insulated jacket. Further disclosed are methods of using the cables of the invention in seismic and wellbore operations, including logging operations.
Abstract:
A hanger system is provided for supporting a cable-supported dewatering pump in a gas well. A dewatering pump is supported in a downhole location by a cable. A cable hanger bears the weight of the cable and the weight of the dewatering pump. A pulling tool is configured to detachably connect to the cable hanger and to support the weight of the cable hanger, cable and gas well dewatering system as it is pulled out of a seated position in the well.
Abstract:
Embodiments disclosed herein relate to a cable for use with a downhole pump. The cable includes a cable core having at least one metallic conductor and at least one polymer layer bonded to the at least one metallic conductor, the cable further includes and at least one strength member layer bonded to the cable core. The at least one strength member layer may include a plurality of polymer-bonded strength members. Further, the cable may be continuously bonded from the at least one metallic conductor to the at least one strength member layer.
Abstract:
A method of forming at least a portion of a cable comprises providing at least one conductor, extruding at least an inner layer of polymeric insulation over the at least one conductor to form a cable conductor core, embedding a plurality of conductors into the inner layer of the cable conductor core, and extruding an outer layer of polymeric insulation over the cable conductor core and the plurality of conductors and bonding the inner layer to the outer layer to form the cable and provide a contiguous bond between the inner layer, the conductors, and the outer layer, wherein embedding comprises heating a one of the inner layer and the conductors prior to embedding the conductors into the inner layer.
Abstract:
A fiber optic cable comprises a cable core comprising at least one optical fiber and one of at least one electrical conductor and at least one strength member disposed adjacent the at least one optical fiber, at least one polymeric inner layer enclosing the cable core, and at least one polymeric outer layer enclosing the cable core and the inner layer to form the fiber optic cable, the outer layer operable to maintain integrity of the cable within a predetermined temperature range.
Abstract:
A heating and distributed-temperature-sensor cable permanently fixed in a wellbore that permits known amounts of heat to be introduced to subsurface formations and improved temperature measurement thereof. The heat is introduced into a target zone of the wellbore by forming the cable in two sections: an upper section that carries an electrical current without generating significant amounts of heat, and a lower section that generates heat from the electrical current. Continuous distributed-temperature-sensing is performed through measuring various scattering mechanism in optical fibers that run the length of the cable.
Abstract:
A cable component is provided that includes at least one optical fiber; and a plurality of shaped profiles having inner and outer surfaces such that the inner surfaces combine to from an enclosure for the at least one optical fiber.
Abstract:
Slickline cables and methods for preparing such cables are disclosed. A slickline cable includes a pre-manufactured polymer composite rod having a channel therein; an optical fiber disposed in the channel; a fastener securing the optical fiber in the channel, wherein the fastener is selected from the group comprising a polymer tape, a polymer layer, and a combination thereof, and an outer tube disposed outside the polymer composite rod having the optical fiber therein. A method for manufacturing a slickline cable includes preparing a polymer composite rod having at least one channel therein; placing at least one optical fiber in the at least one channel in the polymer composite rod; securing the at least one optical fiber in the at least one channel using a polymer tape, a polymer layer, or a combination of a polymer tape and a polymer layer; disposing an outer tube over the polymer composite rod.
