Abstract:
A method for manufacturing an aqueous fire retardant composition, an aqueous fire retardant composition, a method of treating a wood substrate therewith, and a wood product produced therefrom are provided. The method for manufacturing the aqueous fire retardant composition comprises combining a phosphoric acid, an ammonia compound, and a boric acid and contacting the phosphoric acid with the ammonia compound in an aqueous medium to form a reaction product comprising a phosphate salt. The fire retardant composition comprises the reaction product and the aqueous medium.
Abstract:
A wood preservative composition comprising 4.5-dichloro-2-octylisothiazol-3 (2H)-one, a method of treating a wood substrate therewith, and a wood product produced therefrom are provided. The wood preservative composition comprises at least 10% by weight of 4.5-dichloro-2-octylisothiazol-3-one (DCOI) based on the total weight of the composition, at least 10% by weight of a non-polar organic solvent based on the total weight of the composition, and at least 1% by weight of a polar organic solvent based on the total weight of the composition. A weight ratio of the non-polar organic solvent to the polar organic solvent is in a range of 80:1 to 1:8.
Abstract:
A synergistic aqueous wood preservative composition comprising a copper compound and penflufen. The copper compounds of the compositions of the invention may be soluble, partially solubilized or micronized particles. The penflufen of the compositions of the invention may be solubilized, emulsified or particulate. The wood preservative compositions of the present invention are surprisingly provided as stable dispersions and confer surprising and unexpected resistance to treated wood and wood products.
Abstract:
A method for producing copper carboxylate, a wood preservative composition comprising copper carboxylate, and a wood product produced therefrom are provided. The method comprises combining a hydrocarbon solvent, a copper compound, and carboxylic acid and contacting the copper compound with the carboxylic acid in the presence of the hydrocarbon solvent to form a reaction product comprising copper carboxylate.
Abstract:
Stable wood preservative formulations comprising an amine copper complex, an azole compound, a cationic surfactant, and optionally, an organic solvent, are disclosed. The wood preservative formulations exhibit long-term stability and remain homogeneous, without the need for agitation.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for producing copper ammonia solutions by reacting a cuprous oxide with ammonia, carbon dioxide and an oxidant. The resulting copper-containing solution can then be used to formulate a variety of wood preserving products.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for treating wood to give it a desirable color that is durable over time, while at the same time rendering the wood resistant to fungal decay and insect attack. The wood may be pressure treated in a two-step process whereby the wood is first treated with a wood preservation composition, and then treated with a composition comprising pigments, or vice versa. Alternatively, the wood may be simultaneously treated with a composition comprising a wood preservative and a composition comprising pigments.
Abstract:
Wood preservative compositions comprising a particulate copper compound in a solvent carrier with low aromatic content. Particulate copper dispersions in this composition demonstrated superior stability, and wood treated with the composition is protected from attack by wood decay fungi and termites. The invention is also directed to wood preservative compositions comprising: (a.) a biodegradable organic solvent carrier selected from the group consisting of vegetable oil, renewable resource oil, and biodiesel; (b.) a dispersion of solid particles of a metal compound having a particle size between about 0.005 microns to about 10 microns; (c.) an organic biocide; and (d.) a dispersant; ratio of the dispersant to the metal compound is from about 1:500 to about 100:1 (wt/wt). The invention is also directed to compositions comprising penflufen and solvent carriers. The invention is also directed to methods of treating wood using the compositions, and wood treated with the disclosed compositions and methods.
