Abstract:
An improved injection site (12) for infusion of parenteral fluids and the like is provided, having a pressure-actuated valve (20) and a novel split septum unit (24), which effectively prevent reflux of blood into the assembly (10). The septum unit (24) includes a resilient split septum body (64) which is precompressed so that the septum body (64) is caused to protrude proximally (78) upon insertion of a cannula (16). Consequently, upon removal of the cannula (16), there is essentially no “drumming” or creation of friction-induced negative pressures sufficient to generate blood reflux. The preloaded septum body (64) also has its proximal surface (74) essentially flush and coplanar with the adjacent proximal end (66b) of the tubular septum holder (66) to enhance the cleanliness of the unit (24). The specialized well (46) and septum unit (24) afford a resilient seal between the periphery of the septum body (64) and the surface (50), and a separate hard-surface seal between the outer margin of the surface (50) and the septum holder (66).
Abstract:
An intravenous catheter anchoring assembly is disclosed and includes a patient-contacting membrane, a platform, and a retaining strap for securing a catheter or tubing of an administration set to a patient. The strap is attached to the platform with adjustable pull-tabs that permit a variety of catheter shapes and sizes to be secured. The strap is also elastomeric so that the strap is stretchable and thereby grabs the secured catheter. The strap and platform further define a plurality of passageways that permit the catheter to be secured in a plurality of non-aligned directions.
Abstract:
A processor, capable of operation in a host machine, including memory management logic to support a plurality of memory types for a physical memory access by the processor, and virtualization support logic to determine a host memory type for a reference to a memory location by a guest in a virtual machine executable on the processor based at least in part on a memory type field stored in an entry of an extended paging table of a virtualization support system of the host machine (extended memory type field), to determine a guest memory type for the reference to the memory location, and to determine an effective memory type based on at least one of the host memory type and the guest memory type.
Abstract:
Ultrasound couplants comprising polysaccharides, particularly sodium alginate and chitosan, and compatible substances for ultrasound imaging in applications that require either sterile or non-sterile forms of ultrasound transmission gels or liquids.
Abstract:
A processor including a virtualization system of the processor with a memory virtualization support system to map a reference to guest-physical memory made by guest software executable on a virtual machine which in turn is executable on a host machine in which the processor is operable to a reference to host-physical memory of the host machine.
Abstract:
A hydrogel coupling device for the transmission of ultrasound therethrough having a predetermined shape and comprising a hydrogen bonded composition comprising PVA, one or both of PVP and PEG, and the balance water. The predetermined shapes are formed and are then exposed to (a) one or more freeze/thaw cycles, (b) one or more dehydration/re-hydration cycles, or (c) one or more freeze/thaw cycles and one or more dehydration/re-hydration cycles. The shapes may further be irradiated with high energy radiation followed by heat treating.
Abstract:
Invention discloses a heated die to form long lived aperatures in upper region of plastic wrapped packages; said die featuring improved construction providing focused unidirectional heat flow to avoid package failure leading to product deterioration and package failure and disengagement with display hangers; said heat control effected by micro control of flow of energizing electricity.
Abstract:
An electronic sign includes a planar lighting module emitting visible light. A cabinet supportingly engages the lighting module. An air chamber is between the cabinet and the lighting module. A vertical partition is within the air chamber and extends between a bottom wall and a top wall of the cabinet, and between the lighting module and a rear wall of the cabinet. The partition divides the air chamber into first and second sections. An electric fan is within the cabinet and transfers air from the first to the second section. The cabinet and/or the lighting module include a plurality of throughholes fluidly interconnecting the air chamber to ambient air. A first subset of the throughholes are more closely fluidly connected to the first section than to the second section. A second subset of the throughholes are more closely fluidly connected to the second section than to the first section.
Abstract:
An aeroponic root system comprises a plant cell having a first root chamber coupled to a second root chamber. A perforated divider may be disposed between the first root chamber and the second root chamber. In some examples, a fluid delivery system may convey water, nutrients, oxygen (e.g., purified oxygen gas), and/or carbon dioxide to the plant according to corresponding delivery schedules. For instance, water and oxygen may be conveyed into the first and second root chambers via a main supply line. Carbon dioxide may be conveyed to a base of the plant via a carbon dioxide delivery ring. In some instances, the delivery schedules may be determined by a type of the plant and/or a growth stage of the plant.
