An illustrative embodiment receives media via a telephonic device. The media is stored in a first data store with a first degree of compression as a first file of a first size. A search interface is provided via which a user can search for the media. After a first period of time and/or at least partly in response to determining that the media has not been accessed or has been infrequently accessed, the media is stored in a second data store with a second degree of compression as a second file of a second size, wherein the second degree of compression is higher than the first degree of compression, and wherein the second size is smaller than the first size.

A greeting is played to the caller, and a voice communication is received and recorded. At least a portion of the voice communication is converted to text and the text is stored and transmitted to a terminal associated with the first party. When a search query is received from the first party, the system searches the data store to determine if there is matching call having related matching call information. If there is a matching call, related information may be provided to the first party.

In an illustrative embodiment, a call processing system answers a call from a caller intended for a first party and records a message from the caller. The call processing system stores call information and the caller message. Some or all of the caller message is transmitted in substantially real time to a terminal associated with the first party. Further, at least a portion of the caller message is converted to text, which is transmitted to a terminal associated with the first party and is stored for later access. The first party can then submit a search query with respect to the stored information. When a search query is received from the first party, the system searches a data store to determine if there is matching call and provides the first party with information related to a matching call.

A call processing system receives a first message transmitted from a first carrier system regarding a facsimile call to a phone address. The first message includes an identifier associated with the user. The identifier is used to determine if the user is authorized to receive call processing system services. If the user is authorized, a second message is transmitted to the first carrier system, the second message indicating that the first carrier system is to connect the call to the call processing system. The call processing system is connected to the call. A facsimile is received via the call at the call processing system. Information regarding the facsimile call is provided over a network, wherein some or all of the information is displayed in a call log visually accessible by the user.

In an embodiment, a call processing system receives a first message from a switch while the switch is processing a call for a calling party, wherein the first message is initiated at least partly in response to a firing of a call event trigger configured within a switch. The first message includes call signaling information, including the calling party's phone number. The calling party's phone number is stored in the call processing system. A communication channel is established over a network between the call processing system and a computer associated with the called party.
