摘要: A gas sensing signaling system is provided in which a plurality of gas sensing units are connected over cables with a central station. To permit establishment of threshold levels such that false alarms are rejected while the system still remains sensitive to dangerous conditions and to permit ready supervision and testing of said system, a central station is provided in which timing circuits are included which start the time interval upon sensing of an alarm condition above a lower, or warning threshold level. If the lower warning level signal persists for the timing interval--for example for about one-half minute, a warning signal is given. A higher level signal generates an alarm signal, either immediately or after a much shorter time delay. The circuit includes self-holding circuitry so that, once a sensing unit transmits a sensing signal which persists beyond the previous predetermined warning or alarm time duration, the central station will indicate the respective conditions until manually reset. Besides indication, corrective action, such as energization of ventilation equipment and the like can be controlled. The cabling system preferably operates with predetermined, discrete voltage levels at the respective signal lines which, upon transmission of a warning and/or alarm signal, changes under control of a voltage control circuit in the central station, to permit additionally, by connection of a termination element, to indicate malfunction within the lines or the sensing units by detecting current flow and voltage relationships in the respective lines.

摘要: A fire alarm is provided with a temperature sensitive element formed of a shape memory alloy, which following cold working, upon heating to a critical temperature, typically for instance about 70.degree. C., returns to the original impressed shape and also retains this shape even after subsequent recooling. Due to the movement of the element there is triggered a self-holding alarm signal, either directly by closing contacts or indirectly. Resetting of the fire alarm can be accomplished by mechanically cold working the element, or by using two-way shape memory alloys through cooling to a lower temperature threshold which can be below room or ambient temperature. A further beneficial construction is realized by combining the arrangement with a different type of fire detection or sensing element, for instance by arranging a shape memory alloy element in a scattered radiation-smoke detector. Upon reaching a critical temperature, the shape memory alloy element moves into the radiation region, or when used in an ionization fire alarm, the shape memory alloy element screens the radioactive radiation source and reduces the ionic current. Suitable shape memory alloys are, by way of example, nickel 55/titanium 45, or nickel 45/titanium 45/copper 10.

摘要: A method and apparatus for fault direction determination is disclosed wherein a capacitor is connected in series in a line or network having a relay arrangement or scheme possessing directional and distance characteristics. To prevent faulty tripping of the relay arrangement, caused by the effect of the series capacitance in the line, the relay arrangement is structured such that the integrity of the directional characteristics thereof is maintained. Positive tripping of the relay is maintained, especially in the event of near faults which usually are most affected by the action of the series capacitance.

摘要: A method of suppressing appetite which comprises ingesting an amount of 20-60 grams effective to suppress appetite of a granulated dietetic foodstuff having a low rate of decomposition in the digestive tract consists essentially of a dried mixture of fat-free or low fat milk curds and casein in a dry solids ratio of about 1:1 to about 1:5, and having a particle size between about 0.5 and 5 mm, which is prepared by a process which comprises the steps of incorporating 2-5 parts of casein into 6 parts of moist milk curds; allowing the mixture to stand for a period of time sufficient to bind the excess water in the curds by swelling of the casein; whereby formation of a granulated and dried product is facilitated compared to milk curds alone.

摘要: A control arrangement, especially for use with a track supported implement, having an elongated beam with carriages at the opposite ends supported on respective tracks in which pick-up elements on at least one of the carriages are sensitive to movement of the respective carriage in a horizontal plane and about a vertical axis on the respective track. The pick-up elements are longitudinally spaced on the curve and supply respective signals to a comparator which emits a control signal which varies as the difference between the pick-up signals varies. The control signal is employed for developing an influence on the beam tending to restore it to the condition of parallelism with itself.

摘要: A coiling device for depositing sliver in a canister has a rotary cage having an axis of rotation; a mechanism for rotating the cage; an inlet opening through which the sliver is introduced into the cage; an outlet opening in the cage eccentrically thereof for discharging the sliver in a path orbiting about the cage axis. There is further provided a first calender roll supported in the cage; a drive mechanism connecting the cage with the first calender roll for rotating the first calender roll about its longitudinal axis upon rotation of the cage about the cage axis; a second calender roll supported in the cage on a pivotal shaft mounted in the cage and spaced from the second calender roll. The second calender roll is urged against the first calender roll for generating a clamping force. The second calender roll and the pivotal shaft form part of a pivotal unit. The two rolls constitute a cooperating calender roll pair between the inlet opening and the outlet opening for drawing, by means of the clamping force, the sliver through the inlet opening and advancing it through the outlet opening. The axis of the pivotal shaft is so oriented in the cage that the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the cage and exerted on the pivotal unit has a sole direction of action which leaves the clamping force unaffected.

摘要: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of di- and polyamines of the diphenylmethane series, and to the preparation of di- and polyisocyanates of the diphenylmethane series from these di- and polyamines. The di- and polyamines of the diphenylmethane series are prepared by the reaction of aniline and formaldehyde in the presence of hydrochloric acid. In the present invention, the formaldehyde employed is used as an aqueous solution which contains less than 0.001 wt % of metal ions which are divalent and/or more than divalent.
