    摘要: In a one-dimensional IP (vertical disparity discarding system), it is made possible to obtain a perspective projection image with no distortion or reduced distortion. A stereoscopic display device is provided with a display device including a display plane in which pixels are arranged flatly in a matrix shape; and a parallax barrier including a plurality of apertures or a plurality of lenses and being configured to control directions of rays from the pixels such that a horizontal disparity is included but a vertical disparity is not included. A horizontal direction pitch of the parallax barrier is integer times a horizontal pitch of the pixels, the display plane of the display device is divided so as to correspond to elemental images for respective apertures or the lenses of the parallax barrier, and an image whose vertical direction corresponds to a perspective projection in a fixed viewing distance and whose horizontal direction corresponds to an orthographic projection is divided and arranged for respective columns of the pixels.

    摘要: There is provided a liquid crystal display which is capable of preventing light from leaking out from the peripheral portion of pixels and which has a high display performance. The liquid crystal display comprises: an array substrate including a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of signal lines, a plurality of switching elements, a plurality of pixel electrodes, and a first alignment layer which is formed on the first substrate so as to cover the pixel electrodes; a counter substrate including a counter electrode and a second alignment layer which is formed on the second substrate so as to cover the counter electrode; and a light control layer sandwiched between the array substrate and the counter substrate, and including a liquid crystal material having a spontaneous polarization and having a nematic phase or an isotropic phase on a high-temperature side of a chiral smectic C phase, an optical axis of liquid crystal molecules in the light control layer substantially staying when no electric field or a first electric field of a first polarity are applied to said liquid crystal material, and the optical axis of the liquid crystal molecules responding in accordance with a magnitude of a second electric field of a second polarity different from the first polarity when the second electric field is applied to said liquid crystal material, wherein an electric field between the scanning lines and the counter electrode has the first polarity when the switching elements turn on.

    摘要: An LCD which having a high response speed, a wide viewing angle and a high contrast and capable of displaying high-quality gray-scale images at normal temperature. The LCD comprises an array substrate, a counter substrate opposing the array substrate, pixel electrodes arranged on the the array substrate in rows and columns, each connected to an active element, a first orientation film provided on the pixel electrodes, a counter electrode opposing the pixel electrodes, arranged on the counter substrate, a second orientation film provided on the counter electrode, rubbed in a direction slightly inclined to a direction in which the first orientation has been rubbed, and a layer of antiferroelectric liquid crystal sealed in a gap between the first and second orientation films, the antiferroelectric liquid crystal being a smectic liquid crystal which contains an antiferroelectric liquid crystal compound represented by R.sup.1 (O)--Zm--Y--E--COO--C*HX--R.sup.4. The liquid crystal exhibits transmittance which increases monotonically with applied voltage and exhibits a memory margin M ranging from -1 to 0 at normal temperature.
