摘要: A method of combining multiple frames of data into a single access to a shared communications medium improves network efficiency transmitting in a fashion compatible with legacy network equipment. An increase in the efficiency of use of a shared communications medium is realized by amortizing the overhead of fixed elements of a communication protocol over multiple frames. The sharing of preamble signaling, elimination of multiple inter-frame gaps or spaces, and the use of a legacy signal field permits a representative embodiment of the present invention to more effectively use a shared communication medium, while in addition providing backward compatible support for legacy network stations.

摘要: A method for multiple input multiple output wireless communication begins by determining protocols of wireless communication devices within the proximal region. The method continues by determining whether the protocols of the wireless communication devices within a proximal region are of a like protocol. The method continues by determining the a number of transmit antennas. The method continues, when the protocols of the wireless communication devices within a proximal region are of the like protocol, formatting preamble of a frame of a wireless communication utilizing at least one of cyclic shifting of symbols, cyclic shifting of tones, sparse tone allocation, and sparse symbol allocation based on the number of transmit antennas.

摘要: A method and apparatus for communicating information between networked devices. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise, for example, a first networked device communicating information over a wireless communication network to a second networked device having power-save mode capability. The first networked device receives an incoming message from the second networked device. A first outgoing message is transmitted to the second networked device prior to transmitting a previously queued outgoing message. A second outgoing message is transmitted to the second networked device prior to the previously queued outgoing message being transmitted. Information may be communicated to the second networked device in a particular manner that depends on whether the second networked device has power-save capability. Communication medium access may be performed in a particular manner, depending on whether the second networked device has power-save capability.

摘要: A method and apparatus for accessing, controlling and utilizing a network communication medium. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise a first networked device with power-save capability. The first networked device may acquire control of a communication medium utilizing a medium access protocol, which may be contention-based. The first networked device may utilize the communication medium to communicate information to a second networked device. The first networked device may transfer control of the communication medium to the second networked device, whereby the second networked device may control the communication medium without having to acquire control of the communication medium by utilizing the medium access protocol. The second networked device may utilize the communication medium to communicate information to the first networked device while maintaining control over the communication medium. The second networked device may have buffered such information for delayed delivery to the first networked device.

摘要: A method of testing a network physical layer device (PHY) having a media independent interface (MII) includes sending information between the PHY and a tester along the data buses of the MII. The information may be sent in the form of special frames, the special frames being sent from the tester to the PHY including an identifier. The PHY includes means for detecting the identifier, for extracting control information from the special frames, and for using the control information to execute write operations to and read operations accessing the memory registers of the PHY, and for sending information to the tester. The information may be passed between the PHY at an exemplary rate of 100 Mb/sec.

摘要: A circuit is provided to carry out conversion and an analog signal into a digital signal, simultaneously with compression of the analog signal. An input analog signal buffered by a sample-and-hold circuit is supplied to a chain of amplifier stages having equal gains greater than 1. A set of comparators compares the output signal of each amplifier stage with a reference value. As soon as the output of any amplifier stage exceeds the reference value, an output of the corresponding comparator becomes active indicating the number of amplifier stages that were required to make the input signal higher than the reference value. A digital output device uses the comparator output signals to produce a digital signal proportional to the input signal level. As the amplifier chain is arranged so as to increase its total gain for a lower level of the input analog signal with respect to its total gain for a higher level of the input analog signal, the conversion circuit compresses the input analog signal simultaneously with its conversion into the digital signal.

摘要: Aspects in a method and system for no buffered traffic indication for wireless local area network (WLAN) power save may enable a peer communication device to determine a time duration for remaining in an active operating state based on communication with other peer communication devices. In one aspect, a given peer communication device may determine that it has no data to communicate to any of the remaining peer communication devices. The given communication device may communicate to each of the peer communication devices that there is no data to transmit to the peer communication device. Each of the peer communication devices may communicate that there is no data to transmit to the given peer communication device. Based on the communications, the given peer communication device may exit the active operating state and enter a low power operating state.

摘要: Aspects of multicast retry in a communication network includes a terminal device serving as an originator station device within a multicast group configured to provide transmission of one or more protocol data units via a network utilizing a multicast address. Subsequent to transmission of the one or more protocol data units, the terminal device may receive an acknowledgment protocol data unit via one of many destination terminal devices configured to serve as a responder. The received acknowledgment protocol data unit provides a basis to determine whether the transmitted protocol data units were successfully received by one or more destination terminal devices. One or more of the protocol data units may be retransmitted based on the determination. Also, following retransmission, a supplemental acknowledgment protocol data unit may be provided via a destination terminal device of the destination terminal devices exclusive of the responder destination terminal device.
