摘要: The present invention is an apparatus and method for improving the detection of the inductance "signal" generated by an inductive plethysmograph (12). Signal detection is improved by modifying the design of the inductive plethysmograph (12) and also by improving the design of the associated circuitry. By virtue of these improvements, the associated circuitry may be located remotely rather than on the transducer, as is the current practice. In one aspect of the invention, the impedance matching transformer (14) joining the inductive plethysmograph (12) to the oscillator (16) is selected such that the inductance of its primary winding is greater than about ten times the reflected inductance of the inductive plethysmograph (12) and the cable (24) joining it to the transformer (14). In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the inductive plethysmograph (12) is modified such that the conductor (20) incorporated therein encircles the relevant body portion a plurality of times. In yet a further aspect of the invention, the cable (24) connecting the inductive plethysmograph (12) to the transformer (14) is selected such that the ratio of the diameter of its screen to the diameter of its center conductor is minimized for reducing the inductance per unit length thereof.

摘要: The present invention pertains generally to a combination of optical elements integrated into a singular unit to perform one or more functional operations upon an electromagnetic radiation emission conveyed through said unit, and more particularly, a plurality of optical elements that are durably integrated into a modular optical package, wherein said modular optical package is adaptive to a releasable mounting mechanism and has the capability to maintain an independently controlled microenvironment. An electromagnetic radiation emission in introduced into the modular optical package through at least one ingress portal and upon modification by the internal optical elements, exits the modular optical package through at least one egress portal. A microenvironment is maintained within the enclosure of the modular optical package such that humidity, temperature, atmospheric composition, particulates, and out-gassing contaminants are controlled.

摘要: A commode seat for a conventional foldable wheelchair including a solid base that rests upon the horizontal seat support rails of a wheelchair when opened. The rectangular opening in the base is centered in the seat. The seat has a waste receptacle support pan mounted on the underside in alignment with the rectangular opening. The support pan is positioned to receive the similarly shaped removable waste receptacle. A U-shaped lifting plate is hinged attached onto the front of base and a sliding center section to cover waste receptacle opening is powered by direct current electric motors. Motors receive current from a power pack mounted on underside of seat. The seat can be operated by a seated invalid without assistance.

摘要: In one aspect, a grate segment for a burner, comprises a substantially rigid body (30) having a dispersed array of cavities (38) filled with a refractory material. In another aspect, a solid fuel gasifier includes a housing (12) defining a gasifier chamber (14), and a solid fuel inlet (21), grate structure (22, 24) in the gasifier chamber. The grate structure includes base means, a plurality of agitator segments (32) positioned relative to the base means for reciprocating movement to agitate a fuel load in the gasifier, and means to support the base means and the agitator segments so that the latter reciprocate in a direction at a substantial inclination to both horizontal and vertical. In use of the gasifier a deep burden of fuel accumulates on the grate structure and the outward stroke of the reciprocation of the agitator elements is in the overall direction of flow of the fuel burden or generally oppositely thereto.

摘要: Methods and media are provided for objectively valuing advertising content (or the potential viewer impact thereof) that occur during the course of an event or other presentation (such as TV sitcom). In one embodiment the method includes receiving a source of media, indexing a set of sponsorship images within the media to provide a set of indices, and providing valuation factors by aggregating the indices so that valuation factors can be derived that indicate a viewer's potential awareness of the advertising content or images therein. The valuation factors can be used in connection with a benchmark, such as the 30-second spot rate or time, to determine a value associated with the media source, including a monetary value.

摘要: An interface system that facilitates user interaction with a plurality of document-management programs, each of which may require different data formats, and convenient output of data generated by such programs to recording or display devices. The invention includes a "front end", which accepts user commands and channels them to a designated application program; and a "back end", which converts output data into a form compatible with a selected output device or display, and which can simultaneously drive display of data from a plurality of application programs. The system operates using a common set of raster-image instructions; output and display data from an application program are converted into this common set of instructions before being provided to a selected output or display device. The system can store multiple display lists in segregated memory partitions, and then combine the lists according to a user-defined "mapping" procedure to produce a single, integrated display.

摘要: A gun barrel cleaner comprises an elongated flexible shaft having a universal coupling secured to each opposite end and several different cleaning tips selectively threadably and detachably engageable with either universal coupling. One cleaning tip, a gun barrel bore obstruction remover, comprises a cylindrical body portion having a concave face at one end and securing means at the other end for attaching the tip to the shaft. A compact cylindrical container for storing and conveniently transporting the gun barrel cleaner is provided. In addition, an improved method of attaching a cleaning patch to a gun barrel cleaning tip having a patch receiving slot is provided.
