摘要: An improved process for separating and isolating individual polar protic monomer(s) and/or oligomer(s) on the basis of degree of polymerization. A liquid sample containing polar protic monomer(s) and/or oligomer(s) is introduced into a liquid chromatography (LC) column packed with a polar bonded stationary chromatographic phase. The individual polar protic monomer(s) and/or oligomer(s) are separated via a binary mobile phase elution. One or more individual fractions containing the monomer(s) and/or oligomer(s) are eluted. The polar protic monomer(s) and/or oligomer(s) may be proanthocyanidins, hydrolyzable tannins, oligosaccharides, oligonucleotides, peptides, acrylamides, polysorbates, polyketides, poloxamers, polyethylene glycols, polyoxyethylene alcohols or polyvinyl alcohols. The binary mobile phase comprises an A phase consisting essentially of a polar aprotic solvent and a B phase consisting essentially of a polar protic solvent. A process for separating and isolating xanthine(s) (e.g., caffeine and theobromine) from polar protic monomer(s) and/or oligomer(s). A liquid sample containing xanthine(s) and polar protic monomer(s) and/or oligomer(s) is introduced into an LC column packed with a polar bonded stationary chromatographic phase. The xanthines are separated via an isocratic mobile phase elution, and one or more individual fractions containing the xanthines are eluted.

摘要: A prosthetic foot includes a sole plate having a body formed of resilient material. The sole plate is elongated along an anterior and posterior axis wherein an anterior portion of the plate defines a toe portion and the posterior portion defines a heel portion. An ankle member having a planar portion in contact with the sole plate is rigidly affixed to the sole plate at the heel portion. The ankle member has an extension portion positioned anterior of the planar portion and separated from the planar portion by a transition portion. A resilient pad is disposed between the contact portion of the ankle member and the sole plate. The resilient pad and extension portion of ankle member define a gap such that as a user's weight is transferred anterior following initial contact, the extension portion of the ankle member tilts forward reducing the gap formed between the resilient pad and the extension portion for improving the dorsiflexion of the prosthetic foot.

摘要: A method for using and interacting with mathematical or algorithmic business system transfer functions in support of a business information, analysis, decisioning and control system. The method includes developing at least one high-level business system view wherein the transfer function is configured to quantitatively express the business system view; identifying a number of input parameters associated with one or more of the resources used in the business process, identifying at least one output parameter associated with the operation of the business process; collecting operational data that associate the number of input parameters with the at least one output parameter based on an actual operation of the business process. The method also includes a primary display layer that presents a control scenario for a testbed environment for the business information and decisioning control system.

摘要: An underground seamless storm shelter for use during severe weather. The storm shelter is comprised of a single piece base formed by a rotational molding process and an impervious, steel plate cover that is secured to the base by a method forming a watertight seal. The cover comprises a steel door that serves as the means of entrance into the shelter. In addition, a ladder is attached to the cover to facilitate entry and exit. The storm shelter has a ventilation system that provides fresh air to the inhabitants. The storm shelter is secured to the ground by a plurality of anchors that are attached to the cover.

摘要: The present invention introduces a concept of “smart” ribbons, which use functionally tensioned optical fibers during the manufacture of fiber optic ribbons to create fiber ribbons with controlled geometrical configuration, optimized strain distribution and reduced attenuation. The ribbons may have flat or bowed cross section and be straight along the length or curved in its plane, or twisted unidirectionally, or periodically. These shapes and residual stress-strain state are induced and controlled by using tension functions instead of traditional constant-value tension per fiber during the ribbon manufacture. Further, the present invention reduces signal loss and/or attenuation in ribbon fibers caused by an increase in the strain variation from tensile strain to compressive strain along the length of the individual fibers when ribbons are manufactured, stacked, stranded around a strength member or twisted and bent during cable installation. In a first embodiment of the present invention, either a symmetric or non-symmetric load distribution is applied across the fibers being placed or drawn into a ribbon structure to eliminate or control residual twist in a completed fiber ribbon. Additionally, in the present invention, the load distribution on the fibers of a ribbon can be varied (e.g. periodically changed) along the length of the ribbon to provide a ribbon with the required design characteristics for any particular application. In a second embodiment of the invention, a fiber optic ribbon is made up of a plurality of sub-unit ribbons arranged in substantially the same plane. Each sub-unit ribbon includes a plurality of optical fibers coated by sub-unit matrices.
