Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for use in monitoring product placement within a shopping facility. Some embodiments provide an apparatus configured to determine product placement conditions within a shopping facility, comprising: a transceiver configured to wirelessly receive communications; a product monitoring control circuit coupled with the transceiver; a memory coupled with the control circuit and storing computer instructions that when executed by the control circuit cause the control circuit to: obtain a composite three-dimensional (3D) scan mapping corresponding to at least a select area of the shopping facility and based on a series of 3D scan data; evaluate the 3D scan mapping to identify multiple product depth distances; and identify, from the evaluation of the 3D scan mapping, when one or more of the multiple product depth distances is greater than a predefined depth distance threshold from the reference offset distance of the product support structure.

Abstract: An article information deduction apparatus (10) includes an acquisition unit (110) and an output unit (120). The acquisition unit (110) acquires data based on a change in a detected value of a weight sensor (30) (hereinafter described as weight change data). For example, the acquisition unit (110) determines data acquired by chronologically arranging data acquired from the weight sensor (30) as weight change data. Further, the acquisition unit (110) acquires data indicating a movement of a hand of a person positioned in a shelf-front space (hereinafter described as movement data). For example, the acquisition unit (110) acquires data acquired by chronologically arranging data output from a depth sensor (40) to the article information deduction apparatus (10) as movement data. The output unit (120) outputs article determination information of the article deduced to be taken out by the hand of the person positioned in the shelf-front space, by using the weight change data and the movement data.

Abstract: Some embodiments include apparatuses providing control over movement of motorized transport units at a retail facility, comprising: multiple self-propelled motorized transport units; a wireless communication network; and a central computer system, wherein the central computer system comprises: a transceiver; a control circuit; and a memory storing computer instructions that when executed cause the control circuit to: receive an override command, from a worker associated with the retail facility, to cause a first motorized transport unit of the multiple motorized transport units to implement one or more actions; confirm a valid authorization of the worker to override one or more operating limits of the first motorized transport unit; and override the one or more operating limits and communicate one or more instructions to the first motorized transport unit configured to cause the first motorized transport unit to implement the one or more actions in accordance with the override command.

Abstract: A direct-to-garment personalization system for personalizing an article has a direct-to-garment printer configured to print a graphic onto the article and a packaged article. The packaged article includes the article to be printed and a packaging. The packaging has an upper packaging portion having a top wall; a print-access window formed in the top wall sized and shaped to accommodate access for a direct-to-garment printer; and a plurality of sidewalls connected to the top wall. The packaging has a lower packaging portion having a bottom wall; a print-access window formed in the bottom wall sized and shaped to accommodate access for a direct-to-garment printer; and a plurality of sidewalls connect to the bottom wall. The packaging also has a stiffener configured to support the article in the lower packaging portion, wherein the article has a printable area lying flat against a front side of the stiffener and has a portion folded around the stiffener. The packaging further includes a retainer for securing the folded portion of the article on a back side of the stiffener, wherein the retainer and the stiffener keep the printable area taut during printing. The system also includes a storage area containing the packaged article, and a transfer system for retrieving the packaged article from the storage area and for moving the packaged article to the direct-to-garment printer.

Abstract: A power distribution system includes a panel assembly that has an outer surface and two conductive structures spaced from each other and spanning beneath the outer surface. An application module is configured to engage one of a plurality of locations disposed over the outer surface of the panel assembly. The application module includes a first contact configured to engage the first conductive structure and a second contact configured to engage the second conductive structure. The second contact is electrically insulated from the first contact and the first conductive structure for the panel assembly to deliver low voltage power to the engaged application module.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a reading device is configured to read information from an RFID tag attached to a product. The reading device includes a housing, an antenna, an opening-and-closing lid, a detector, a reading unit, and an alert unit. The housing includes an opening portion, and therein a space for accommodating the product. The antenna is provided within the space. The opening-and-closing lid is opening and closing the opening portion. The detector is configured to detect an open or closed state of the opening-and-closing lid. The reading unit is configured to read the information from the RFID tag. The alert unit is configured to issue an alert on an operation method in accordance with the open or closed state of the opening-and-closing lid and an operation state of the reading unit.

Abstract: Apparatuses, components and methods are provided herein useful to provide assistance to customers and/or workers in a shopping facility. In some embodiments, a shopping facility personal assistance system comprises: a plurality of motorized transport units located in and configured to move through a shopping facility space; a plurality of user interface units, each corresponding to a respective motorized transport unit during use of the respective motorized transport unit; and a central computer system having a network interface such that the central computer system wirelessly communicates with one or both of the plurality of motorized transport units and the plurality of user interface units, wherein the central computer system is configured to control movement of the plurality of motorized transport units through the shopping facility space based at least on inputs from the plurality of user interface units.
