摘要: An improved technique for compressing a color or gray scale pixel map representing a document using an MRC format including a method of segmenting an original pixel map into two planes, and then compressing the data or each plane in an efficient manner. The image is segmented such that pixels that compress well under a lossy compression technique are placed on one plane and pixels that must be compressed losslessly are placed on another plane. Lossy compression is then applied to the lossy pixel plane while lossless compression is applied to the lossless pixel plane.

摘要: A digital image reproducing apparatus, such as a copier, facsimile machine, or a scanner includes a code detector which analyzes a digital representation of an input document, either directly or in memory for visually apparent machine readable code embedded in the background of the document. A decoder operatively connected with the detector analyzes the machine readable code and determines a security code associated with the original document. A control unit compares the security code from the document with a user authorization or security code and, based on the comparison determines whether to allow or disallow the digitized document to be reproduced. If the document is allowed to be reproduced, an image reproducing system, under the control of the control unit, reproduces the document including any image on the document and the low density tinted background containing the machine readable code. As an added security feature, the control unit may also direct portions of the user identification data arid/or the security data associated with the document to be stored in a database for later review by security personnel. Additionally, a processor in communication with the control unit may be provided to modify the security code of the original document to include other data, such as user information, in the reproduced document. Alternately, the processor may also generate new security codes at the direction of a user for incorporation into documents which contain no original security code, or whose original security code should be changed.

摘要: A method for achieving multiple exposure levels for IOI (IMAGE-ON-IMAGE) xerography when imaging a second color through a first toner layer previously developed on the photoreceptive member. In the example illustrated the data from the previous image paths (magenta and yellow) is analyzed. If the signal indicates that a magenta or yellow bit is present, the cyan output bit information passes to the ROS unchanged, or at full intensity. If however, the magenta and yellow are not present, a modified pattern providing an appropriate reduced exposure signal is sent to the ROS. The process of laser attenuation is blended with halftoning logic to avoid image degradation due to the attenuation.

摘要: Mounted at every other intersection of the deflection planes of the ink droplets issued by a multi-nozzle printhead of a pagewidth continuous stream ink printer are two-dimensional differential optical sensors. These sensors are located near the printing plane and gutters of the printer and comprise first and second input optical fibers, each having one end coupled to a common light source and the other free ends directing light towards aligned confronting free ends of respective associated pairs of output optical fibers. One of the input fibers and its associated pair of output fibers are inclined with respect to the other, though both input fibers and their associated pair of output fibers are either coplanar or contiguous with the same plane. The opposite ends of the pairs of output fibers are respectively coupled to differential circuits via photodetectors, so that each sensed droplet position may be determined relative to both the droplet deflection plane and the plane perpendicular thereto as the droplet travels along its flight path therepast.

摘要: Differences between an offline spectrophotometer and an inline spectrophotometer can result in differences between a hardcopy target color and a printed reproduction of that color. The inline spectrophotometer is inside of a printer and configured to measure printer output. As such, the inline spectrophotometer cannot conveniently measure the hardcopy target color. A printing error or an instrument offset can be determined and passed to a color correction module that updates the device dependent color specification associated with the given spot color. This color specification may be stored, for example, in the printer controller, and used when a document subsequently calls for that spot color, thereby providing accurate color reproduction from that particular printer incorporating that particular inline spectrophotometer.

摘要: Provided is a method for enabling accurate and consistent imaging of selected colors within a document for various printing device configurations utilizing an automated spot color editor. The method includes determining appropriate target values for a selected color within a print job. The automated spot color editor modifies or adjusts the selected color by selecting a quality level, in the form of a color difference metric, and a maximum number of iterations, which is the maximum number of times the automated spot color editor is operated to calculate a CMYK color formula. Sample patch(es) are printed and analyzed for the selected target value and a CMYK color formula based on the color composition of the sample patch is calculated. The CMYK color formula is inserted into a spot color editing table. Through a graphical user interface, an operator may review the color formula for acceptance.

摘要: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for implementing a trapping operation on a digital image during image processing. Some embodiments of the present invention provide an intelligent trapping process to compensate for registration errors or halo effect errors by an imaging device. At various times, a set of customized trapping parameters may be determined for the device based on its actual or estimated performance. The imaging device may be checked automatically on a periodic basis, in response to an event, or upon request. The trapping parameters may be unidirectional and may vary temporally or spatially. The imaging device can then print images based on its customized set of trapping parameters.

摘要: An apparatus and method that provide consistent output across a plurality of different hard copy output devices which may be included in a system comprising an image data source and a hard copy output device. The image data source supplies image data to a printable image data adjusting apparatus. The image data supplied may be in a device-dependent color space or a device-independent color space. If the image data is in a device-dependent color space, the printable image data adjusting apparatus first converts the image data into device-independent image data and stores it in memory as target image data. If the image data is already device-independent image data, the image data are simply stored in the memory of the printable image data adjusting apparatus as target image data. The printable image data adjusting apparatus then uses the target image data to generate printable image data. The hard copy output device uses the printable image data to generate a hard copy image. The hard copy image is then passed within the optical field of a sensor that detects device-independent image data values of the hard copy image. The detected device-independent image data values are then compared against the target image data to generate color adjustment factors. The color adjustment factors are then used to produce a hard copy image having detected device-independent image data values that more closely represent the target image data. The apparatus and method may be implemented in real-time with or without human intervention.
