    摘要: A sealing arrangement for a roll having a rotationally stationary crosshead extending through a rotatable hollow cylinder which forms an outer working circumference, includes longitudinal and transverse end seals disposed against the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder. The seals form at least one longitudinal chamber in the annular clearance space between the crosshead and hollow cylinder. The longitudinal chamber may be filled with pressure liquid for supporting the hollow cylinder. Each longitudinal seal in the form of a seal strip having a substantially L-shaped transverse cross-section with the shorter leg thereof directed against the inner circumferential surface of the hollow cylinder. The shorter leg includes a contact pressure relief surface facing the inner circumferential surface and spaced therefrom. The relief surface is in fluid communication with the pressure fluid in the longitudinal chamber and oriented so that pressure in the longitudinal chamber exerted on the pressure relief surface reduces the contact pressure between the longitudinal seal and the hollow cylinder.

The extended-nip press roll has a stationary support and a flexible roll cover which rotates about the support. A press shoe is arranged on the support, and the roll cover has end sections which are clamped firmly on rotatable end walls on the support. End wall clamping rings respond to a first actuating device and clamp a resilient spreader ring radially against an outer ring that can be connected firmly to the end walls. A sealing ring is arranged on each end wall adjacent the clamping ring and can be deformed radially against the outer ring by means of a second actuating device.

When the roller is operated at particularly low linear pressures in the roll gap, a uniform linear force over the whole width of the paper web is exerted in the row of supporting elements opposite to the roll gap, causing an increase in the hydraulic pressures required in the row of supporting elements that faces the roll gap, until said pressures reach a range in which perfect operation of the supporting elements is ensured.

    摘要: An improved roller apparatus for treating material webs, in which energy requirements are reduced by decreasing losses caused by fluid turbulence. The apparatus includes a cylindrical, hollow roll, supported on a shaft by hydraulic fluid under pressure. Longitudinal seals subdivide the area between the roll and the shaft into chambers. As the roll rotates, a fluid flow is established within the cylinder, in the direction of rotation. Rather than allow the fluid to establish a turbulent return flow path within each chamber, a return path isolated from the rotational flow is provided. One such return path is a group of channels formed transversely through the shaft, or alternately, recesses can be formed circumferentially in the shaft, covered to separate the return flow from the rotational flow.
