Abstract: Driver safety, vehicle safety, and environment safety may be scored based on a variety of input data concerning a driver, a vehicle, or an environment in which the vehicle drives. An overall safety score may be generated based on at least some of these three scores. These scores may be compared to thresholds to trigger or initiate actions such as providing notifications to drivers, raising or reducing vehicle insurance rates, providing coupons and promotions to drivers, or limiting vehicle speed in a manner that is personalized to the driver and/or vehicle and/or environment.

Abstract: Driving behavior for a particular driver may be gathered and analyzed over a time period, such as a year or a duration of the driver's employment at a particular employer. The driving behavior is received by a server from a positioning device as multiple streams of position data at different time stretches throughout the time period, each stream of position data associated with a route of a plurality of routes driven by at least one vehicle. The server generates speed data from the streams of position data and compares the speed data to retrieved speed limit data for those routes. The server generates a report with at least a speeding percentage value corresponding to how often the driver was speeding while driving during the time period. The report is then sent to the driver's computing device.

The safety scores or indices may be used to generate a personalized speed threshold or acceleration threshold for a vehicle and/or a driver of the vehicle. Methods and apparatus consistent with the present disclosure may result in the speed of a vehicle being reduced, an increase in vehicle location accuracy, or functions such as headlights or windshield wipers or automated driving assistance being turned on to increase safety.
