A destaging method is provided for destaging a storage apparatus system comprising a disk control apparatus that functions as a data storage unit and is provided with disk apparatuses and a first cache memory, and an information processing apparatus that is connected to the disk control apparatus and provided with a second cache memory. The method includes a first step, in which upon an interruption of the functions of the disk control apparatus as the storage unit for the information processing apparatus, the information processing apparatus transfers to the first cache memory data scheduled to be written onto the disk apparatuses and that is currently stored in the second cache memory, and a second step, in which the disk control apparatus manages data to be stored in the disk apparatuses by dividing the data into a plurality of management groups and, when all data that belong to one of the management groups remained in the second cache memory and scheduled to be written onto the disk apparatuses are ready in the first cache memory, beginning writing onto the disk apparatuses the data that belong to the one of the management groups remaining in the first cache memory are scheduled to be written.

Under a hetero-environment in which different sorts of disk-systems are mixed with each other, a data guaranteeing operation can be carried out. When a cache controller of a local disk system receives a data writing request from a host computer, the cache controller stores data into a local disk provided in a disk device group. The data received from the host computer is also transmitted to a remote disk system and is stored in a remote disk. The data stored in the remote disk is immediately read, and the data written in the remote disk is compared with the data written in the local disk. As a result, since a data guarantee operation on the remote side is processed by the local disk system instead of the remote disk system, a data guaranteeing operation when a remote copying operation is performed can be carried out even in the storage system under a hetero-environment.

A storage controller of the present invention writes data to a storage device, in which the storage unit is fixed, at a size that is larger than this storage unit, and curbs response performance degradation. A host sends write-data in a prescribed number of logical blocks in accordance with a basic I/O size defined at initialization. A controller respectively creates a guarantee code for each logical block, and appends same to the write-data. Write-data, to which a guarantee code has been appended, is stored in another prescribed number of logical blocks in accordance with a basic disk access size which is set at a value corresponding to the basic I/O size, and sent to a storage device. When an unused part is also stored in the storage device, the utilization efficiency of the storage area decreases, but the need to read out data located before and after data targeted for updating at data write is eliminated, thereby curbing the degradation of response performance.
