摘要: Methods, printers, and control panels for printers are disclosed. An example printer includes a control panel, a print substrate path exit to output a print substrate from the printer in response to a printing task, and a control panel actuator to move the control panel from a first position in which the control panel at least partially obstructs a print substrate from passing through the print substrate path exit to a second position in which the control panel does not obstruct the print substrate from passing through the print substrate path exit.

摘要: A printing system includes multiple print units which each have one or more printbar assemblies to transfer an imaging medium onto a print media. An individual print unit can include a heater system to dry the imaging medium transferred onto the print media by the one or more printbar assemblies of the individual print unit. For a printing system with two print units, a first percentage of the imaging medium is transferred onto the print media, the print media is advanced beyond the one or more printbar assemblies of the first print unit, and a first heater system dries the first percentage of the imaging medium. A second percentage of the imaging medium is then transferred onto the print media, the print media is advanced beyond the one or more printbar assemblies of the second print unit, and a second heater system dries the second percentage of the imaging medium.

摘要: A vacuum holddown for sheet materials has a surface having a field of vacuum ports in which each individual port is gated. When a vacuum is applied to the underside of the holddown, the gates close. When a sheet of material is introduced onto a region of the field, the gates only within vacuum manifold passageway covered by the material are configured to spring open, applying a suction force to the sheet via the now opened ports. The holddown thus automatically adjusts to material size. An implementation for use in an ink-jet printer with cut-sheet print media is demonstrated.

摘要: A system for regulating the vacuum hold pressure in a printer based upon the physical characteristics of the print media that is directed through the printer. In one embodiment, the characteristic of a sheet of media is detected before or as the sheet reaches the carrier. The vacuum pressure level is thus regulated in response to the physical characteristic of the sheet, thereby to have applied to that particular media a level of vacuum pressure that prevents problems that arise when pressure levels are too low (for example, inadvertent shifting of the paper) or too high (for example, paper deformations that reduce print quality).

摘要: An improved printer paper stack-handling device is described. In its preferred embodiment, the stack-handling device includes a pivot member with a downwardly inclining paper top-of-stack contact surface. The device also includes a force mechanism, e.g. a leaf spring, to pivot the member into contact with the top sheet of a paper stack. The spring and the pivot member's inclined contact surface produce a variable top sheet bias for corresponding variable paper stack heights, to properly laterally align the top sheet against a fixed, opposing guide rail, for feeding to a printer input port.

摘要: A difference in feed roller diameter from one printer to another causes a media to advance by a different amount for a given rotation of a drive shaft to which the feed roller is coupled. Such variation in advance distance is a linefeed error. Mean linefeed error is determined and corrected by printing a test plot having several areas. Each area is formed of the same image pattern, but is printed at a different linefeed error adjustment to compensate for mean linefeed error. The different adjustments are prescribed and span a typical compensation range for a given print engine model. The different adjustment factors cause banding to occur in some areas. The user picks one of the test pattern areas which has the highest print quality (i.e., least or no banding). The linefeed adjustment factor corresponding to such area is used for normal printing.
