Abstract:
An oscillating probe of an elongated rod, having a first free end, and a second end that is attached to at least one actuator to apply oscillation cycles to the rod. Oscillation of the elongated rod during at least one complete cycle of oscillation of the actuator causes the free end to move in at least one-dimensional envelope, producing a defined virtual probe tip geometry at the free end. The probe is connected to a system for utilizing information sensed as the free end is placed near a surface.

This invention relates to methods of treating or preventing lupus comprising the administration of clofarabine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, hydrate, solvate or clathrate thereof to a patient in need of such treatment. The invention further relates to methods of treating or preventing lupus comprising the administration of clofarabine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, hydrate, solvate or clathrate thereof and an additional therapeutic agent to a patient in need of such treatment.
Abstract:
The present invention includes a novel polyol prepolmer including either an aliphatic amine, cycloaliphatic amine, aromatic amine or a mixture of these with an epoxy functional silicone to produce the novel polyol prepolymer chain extender. In one aspect of the invention, the novel polyol prepolymer chain extender is reacted with an epoxy resin to produce a novel silicone modified epoxy resin having improved adhesion, chemical resistance, UV stability, and decreased shrinkage properties. In another aspect of the invention, the novel polyol prepolymer chain extender is reacted with an acrylic monomer to produce a novel silicone modified acrylic resin having improved adhesion, chemical resistance, UV stability, increased functionality, and decreased shrinkage properties. The present invention also provides for a novel solid surface material composition.
Abstract:
A symmetric ultra-precision spindle design in which all forces of constraint are, within the tolerances of manufacturing and assembly processes, symmetrically arranged about its axis. Additionally this design may require little or no external power other than the forces to rotate the spindle.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for retaining composite structures, such as composite honeycomb structures, during manufacture are provided. The composite structure is cured on a mandrel that defines a layup surface with a grip feature. The grip feature is configured to engage the composite structure during manufacture and retain the structure in a predetermined configuration. A film adhesive can be provided between the grip feature and a tiedown ply that extends from the composite structure.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for producing gel-coated, shaped articles wherein the total processing time is decreased compared to conventional processes and the physico-mechanical properties of the gel-coated, shaped articles produced therefrom are maintained.
Abstract:
Methods are provided for detecting thioesterase II enzyme in both tissue and serum samples. The presence of thioesterase II in other than mammary epithelial tissue is associated with neoplastic mammary epithelial cells.
Abstract:
An electronic expansion valve (EEV) controller allows a user to drive the stepper motor of EEVs. Thus, the EEVs toggle between an open position or a closed position. The EEV controller includes a housing, a portable power supply, a motor driver printed circuit board (PCB), a power switch, a directional switch, and a motor connector. The housing is used to protect and hold in place the motor driver PCB, the portable power supply, the power switch, the directional switch, and the motor connector. The portable power supply is used to provide electrical energy to the motor driver PCB and to the stepper motor of EEVs through the motor connector. The power switch allows a user to manually turn on or off the EEV controller and the stepper motor. The directional switch is used to toggle the stepper motor between a clockwise rotation or a counter-clockwise rotation.
Abstract:
An optical instrument (10) has a drop-supporting surface for receiving a droplet (98) of liquid with a cover (16) mounted on the housing (12) which receives a light source and provides communication between the light source (114) and the inner surface of the cover. A loading aperture (24) extending through the cover permits access to the drophead when the cover is in a first rotational loading position, and the cover may be rotated to a measurement position in which the light source is positioned to illuminate the drop-supporting surface. A positioning mechanism provided between the cover an the housing engages the cover when it reaches the measurement position and thereby ensures that the light source and drop-supporting surface are maintained in fixed spaced-apart relationship.
Abstract:
An analyzer comprising a source of electromagnetic radiation, a detector for said radiation and a drophead comprising a surface which is adapted to receive a drop of liquid to be tested, the drophead being positioned in use relative to the source and detector to illuminate a drop received thereon and to cause an interaction in the path of the electromagnetic radiation between the source and detector, characterized in that said surface of said drophead is dimensioned to constrain the drop to adopt a shape which is dominated more by surface tension forces than by gravitational forces.
