    摘要: The invention relates to a gas bearing of a rapidly rotating shaft, whose end supports a tool, in particular to a gas bearing of a rapidly rotating shaft, whose end supports a polygon mirror (27) for a spindle of an optical application. To provide radial support along the shaft (3), gas bearings are arranged in a housing (5), whereby a first gas bearing (9) and a third gas bearing (8) are positioned concentrically in relation to one another and a second gas bearing (2), which is located midway between the first gas bearing (9) and the third gas bearing (8), is mounted in an eccentrically offset manner to the first gas bearing (9) and the third gas bearing (8). The invention is also provided with an adjusting device (1) for increasing the eccentric offset of the second gas bearing (2) as the rotational speed of the shaft (3) increases.

    摘要: The shaft may be supported for rotation by a conical bearing rotating within a sleeve. To prevent misalignment of the rotor and stator as the motor heats up and fluid viscosity changes, a magnetic preload is established; in a preferred embodiment, the magnetic preload is achieved using a magnetic back iron aligned with the stator magnet, the magnetic back iron being supported from the base. The shaft may further include a lower journal bearing for maintaining radial alignment and/or stiffness. A shaft may be supported for rotation relative to a sleeve by a combination of journal bearing and thrust bearing whose gaps are connected and grooved to cooperate. The bearing system includes a magnetic preload at the end of the shaft distal from the journal bearing/thrust bearing combination, the magnetic force balancing the spiral groove thrust bearing to maintain the bearing support for the shaft and the load (including hub and disc) that it supports. Further, the journal bearing balances against the thrust bearing so that as fluid is drawn further into the thrust bearing, it is withdrawn from the journal bearing to reduce the working area of the journal bearing. A reservoir terminating in a capillary seal also provided on the far side of the thrust bearing from the journal bearing. This design allows the journal bearing to drain itself as the thrust bearing spins up and its pressure increases so that the pressure of the journal bearing matches the thrust bearing.

    摘要: A bearing assembly having a shaft member having a bearing race and a piezoelectric member opposing the bearing race is situated so that when a voltage is applied to it, it expands against the bearing race so that a preload of the bearing is varied. The assembly includes a rotor having two outer bearing races opposing the shaft's inner bearing races. The contact angle for the upper bearing races is different than for the lower bearing races. In one embodiment of the present system, the piezoelectric member is disposed between the shaft member and the bearing race for varying the radial position of the bearing race. In another embodiment, the piezoelectric member is disposed for varying the axial position of the bearing race. In one embodiment, the system includes a hydrodynamic bearing assembly having a stator member having a hydrodynamic surface and a rotor member having a surface facing the stator member hydrodynamic surface. A piezoelectric member is attached to either the stator member or the rotor member for varying the width of said gap between said surfaces.

The structure has, in succession: a head which bears against an engagement surface that is formed, in facing relationship with the head, in a first lateral face of the connecting rod. A cylindrical first shank portion and a cylindrical second shank portion that is of smaller diameter than the first shank portion forms an extension to the first shank. The articulating device also has structure that secures the crank on the second shank portion of the pivot pin against relative axial movement and takes up axial clearance. This structure, moreover, is arranged to be compressed while fastening the structure together during assembly.

The pads may have a modular construction whereby pad portions are releasable secured to support portions. The pads may also be releasably secured to the carrier. Various bearing pad construction, are contemplated including constructions in which the secondary support portion includes a membrane and the primary support portion includes a cylindrical member extending between the membrane and the bearing pads. A continuous bearing pad ring may be substituted for the discrete bearing pads. The carrier may be provided with locator pins in the pad receiving bores to orient the pads properly. The carrier may have cuts and grooves formed therein to provide a flexible or even beam mounted support for the bearing pads. The bearing may also have a multimode configuration and may include smart structures.
