Abstract:
Efficient parallel processing of algorithms involving Galois Field arithmetic use data slicing techniques to execute arithmetic operations on a computing hardware having SIMD (single-instruction, multiple-data) architectures. A W-bit wide word computer capable of operating on one or more sets of k-bit operands executes Galois Field arithmetic by mapping arithmetic operations of Galois Field GF(2n) to corresponding operations in subfields lower order (m
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a method for the detection of antibodies in celiac disease. The method comprises detecting antibodies in serum, to a combination of transglutaminase and a substrate therefor.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pressure housing for in-water pressure based systems and to a method for improving the life of the transducers and electronics of underwater systems by maintaining a humidity-free and clean environment around them by avoiding the entry of humidity, dust, or any suspended particles in the air during occasional data offloading and battery replacement in a humid and dust-laden field station; improving the ease of closing and opening of the pressure housing by the use of a novel arrangement thereby avoiding the use of conventionally employed cumbersome protruding and corrosion-prone locking devices such as screws, bolts, or clamps; and implementing reliable transmission of water pressure to the pressure port of the transducer, simultaneously minimizing the errors arising from dynamic pressure effects, preventing its chemical corrosion from saline water, and arresting bio-fouling in the vicinity of the pressure inlet.

Abstract:
A means and method for treating inflamed mucosal tissues topically with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is described. The NSAID is incorporated into a substantive film forming aqueous based carrier system consisting of a water dispersible natural cellulosic polymer and an organic acid. The NSAID composition may further include a water soluble or water hydratable viscosity enhancing agent and/or a plasticizer. The NSAID topical composition is especially effective in treating pain associated with vulvodynia or vulvar vestibulitis.
Abstract:
A method for making an oxidized cellulose product from a cellulose material is disclosed. The method involves oxidizing a cellulose material into an oxidized cellulose product, comprising treating the cellulose material with a hypochlorite solution having an active chlorine content of between about 4 and about 6%, at a pH exceeding 9.5 and at a temperature, and for a time, effective to convert the cellulose material into the oxidized cell product; filtering the oxidized cellulose product; and washing the oxidized cell product with an antichlor agent such as sodium thiosulfate to remove chlorine and to raise the oxidized cellulose product to a neutral pH. The oxidized cellulose product may be used to form films, dispersions, gels, as carriers, for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and other products.
Abstract:
Microfibrillated oxycellulose suitable for use as a carrier in agricultural, cosmetic, and topical and transdermal drug products, and as a binder and disintegrant in the making of tablets, is prepared by the oxidation of cellulosic materials with persulfate salts in water, with or without the presence of an aqueous inorganic acid, or in glacial or aqueous acetic acid.
Abstract:
A wheeled mobility system, such as a wheelchair, having articulated limbs for providing a tractive force between the mobility system and a surface. The articulated limbs provide tractive locomotive forces under abnormal operating conditions wherein wheeled locomotion is inhibited by an obstacle or the like. Controlled drive motors coupled to the articulated limbs and the wheels of the mobility system provide for redundant actuation of the limbs and wheels. The wheeled mobility system is inherently omni-directional, provides superior mobility in difficult terrain or soil conditions, such as sand, clay, gravel and rocks, and further provides for surmounting of obstacles, such as steps, ditches and rocks. The limbs also give the chair versatility and allow it to be re-configured to satisfy the comfort requirements of the user. The limbs can further be used as a manipulator in order to perform tasks such as reaching for objects or pushing open doors.
Abstract:
Hardware for providing a grounding interconnect for a standard connector is formed by a single metallic member which is stamped and formed to enclose a mating face of the connector and extend across at least mounting portions of a mounting face with the metal member being provided with profiled apertures receiving therein a wiping contacting engagement a mounting and locking means for the connector.
Abstract:
It is disclosed a method for determining the biological activity of defibrotide, which comprises the steps of: a) bringing into contact defibrotide, mammalian euglobulin and a substrate specific for the plasmin which, by reaction with the plasmin, provides a measurable product; and b) measuring the amount of product formed at successive times, to thereby determine the biological activity of the defibrotide. Liquid defibrotide formulations are also disclosed, preferably water solutions, having a defined biological activity and, in particular, having an activity of 25 to 35 IU/mg of defibrotide, preferably from 27.5 to 32.5 IU/mg and, more preferably, from 28 to 32 IU/mg.
