摘要: There is provided a polymer electrolyte fuel cell capable of: sufficiently suppressing the progress of drying of the polymer electrolyte in the catalyst layers and of the polymer electrolyte membrane, and in addition, the occurrence of flooding, even if the moistened conditions of the fuel gas or the oxidant gas fed to the fuel cell change; suppressing the degradation of the anode, cathode and polymer electrolyte membrane; and thus reducing the deterioration of the cell performance readily and reliably. The polymer electrolyte fuel cell includes: a polymer electrolyte membrane; an anode and a cathode which are arranged in such a manner as to hold the polymer electrolyte membrane between them; and a pair of separators having a first gas flow path for feeding fuel gas to the anode and discharging fuel gas from the anode and a second gas flow path for feeding oxidant gas to the cathode and discharging oxidant gas from the cathode, where a notched portion is made on each of the anode and the cathode in such a position so as to allow the two notched portions to face each other, the polymer electrolyte membrane is held by the pair of separators in that position, and the polymer electrolyte membrane is supported by reinforcing members having gas permeability in the notches.

摘要: A fuel cell includes an electrolyte membrane, a pair of anode-side and cathode-side catalyst layers, a pair of an anode gas diffusion layer and a cathode gas diffusion layer, and a pair of an anode-side separator and a cathode-side separator. Also adjusted in the fuel cell is at least one of a fine pore diameter and a content of a water repellent agent in the anode gas diffusion layer and the cathode gas diffusion layer, so as to satisfy the following equation (1): −0.07≦(Ya−Xa)/((Ya−Xa)+(Yc−Xc))≦0.15 (1) wherein Xa represents a water feeding amount in the fuel gas thus fed, Ya represents a water discharging amount in the discharged fuel gas, Xc represents a water feeding amount in the oxidizing gas thus fed, and Yc represents a water discharging amount in the discharged oxidizing gas.

摘要: A polymer electrolyte fuel cell comprising a hydrogen-ion conductive polymer electrolyte membrane, an anode and a cathode sandwiching the hydrogen-ion conductive polymer electrolyte membrane, an anode-side conductive separator plate having gas flow channels for supplying a fuel gas to the anode, and a cathode-side conductive separator plate having gas flow channels for supplying an oxidant gas to the cathode, wherein the anode-side and cathode-side conductive separator plates have a substantially rectangular part in contact with the anode or cathode in which the length of a longer side is equal to or more than twice the length of a shorter side, and the oxidant gas flow channels have a linear part formed along the longer side of the rectangular part.

摘要: A polymer electrolyte fuel cell stack that includes a cell laminate having a plurality of unit cells, which are laid one upon another and each of which includes a polymer electrolyte membrane, a pair of electrodes arranged across the polymer electrolyte membrane and having respective catalytic reaction layers, a separator having means for feeding a supply of fuel gas containing hydrogen gas to one of the electrodes, another separator having means for feeding a supply of oxidant gas to the other of the electrodes, and a manifold for feeding the supply of fuel gas or the supply of oxidant gas to the respective electrode and disposed on a side face of each unit cell. In the polymer electrolyte fuel cell stack, a sealing portion is disposed at least in the vicinity of each electrode. The polymer electrolyte fuel cell stack has excellent durability and productivity. Gasket sealing portions, a sealing portion for cooling water, and sealing portions for water and gas in an internal humidifying unit are composed of a polymer compound that has polyisobutylene as the backbone structure. This arrangement ensures high reliability.

摘要: Disclosed is a polymer electrolyte fuel cell having an improved separator plate. The fuel cell comprises a solid polymer electrolyte membrane; an anode and a cathode sandwiching the solid polymer electrolyte membrane therebetween; an anode-side conductive separator plate having a gas flow path for supplying a fuel gas to the anode; and a cathode-side conductive separator plate having a gas flow path for supplying an oxidant gas to the cathode, wherein each of the anode-side and cathode-side conductive separator plates is composed of a metal and a conductive coat which has resistance to oxidation and covers a surface of the metal. Alternatively, the above-mentioned separator plates are formed of a metal and a coat having resistance to oxidation and have roughened surfaces with recessions and protrusions, and portions of a top surface of the protruding portions, which lack the coat, are electrically connected to an electrode.

摘要: A solid-electrolyte secondary cell comprising a positive and a negative electrode composed of a copper chevrel compound (Cu.sub.x Mo.sub.6 S.sub.8), and copper ion conductive solid electrolyte is provided. This secondary cell is capable of charging with a current as high as about 1 mA/cm.sup.2, can stand high temperatures of up to 100.degree. C. and maintains its initial performance even after long-time charging and discharging. A cell small in voltage drop during dicharge is also provided by using a heat treated mixture of a copper chevrel compound and a copper ion conductive solid electrolyte represented by the formula K.sub.q Rb.sub.1-q Cu.sub.4 I.sub.2-p Cl.sub.3+3 (0.ltoreq.q.ltoreq.0.5, 0.25.ltoreq.p.ltoreq.1.0) for both positive and negative electrodes.

摘要: A polymer electrolyte fuel cell comprising: a hydrogen ion-conductive polymer electrolyte membrane; an anode and a cathode with the electrolyte membrane interposed therebetween; an anode-side conductive separator having a gas flow channel for supply of a fuel gas to the anode; and a cathode-side conductive separator having a gas flow channel for supply of an oxidant gas to the cathode, wherein each of the anode and the cathode comprises at least a catalyst layer in contact with the electrolyte membrane and a gas diffusion layer in contact with the catalyst layer and the separator, and at least one of the anode and the cathode contains a compound represented by the formula (I): R1—O—{(C2H4O)n—(C3H6O)m}—R2 (I) where R1 and R2 are independent of each other and each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having not less than 5 and not more than 15 carbon atoms, n and m are integers which satisfy 0≦n≦5, 0≦m≦5 and 1≦n+m≦5, and when neither n nor m is 0, at least one of the ethylene oxide group and at least one of the propylene oxide group are arranged in a random fashion.
