    摘要: An electrical machine is provided. The machine includes at least one rotor mounted for rotation about a central axis and at least two stator sections mounted axially adjacent to and on opposite sides of the rotor. The rotor includes two circumferentially arrayed rows of alternating segments of permanent magnet and ferromagnetic pole pieces. One of the rows is spaced radially inwardly from the other row. The permanent magnet and ferromagnetic pole pieces are separated by a non-ferromagnetic material. The pole pieces are arranged so that the permanent magnet segments in the first row are radially adjacent to ferromagnetic segments in the second row so that the N-S magnetic fields of the permanent magnet segments are aligned axially. Each stator section includes a ferromagnetic stator frame, at least a first AC winding wound in circumferential slots in the stator frame, and a DC field winding wound on the stator frame.

    摘要: The present invention provides a novel dual-rotor, radial-flux, toroidally-wound, permanent-magnet machine. The present invention improves electrical machine torque density and efficiency. At least one concentric surface-mounted permanent magnet dual-rotor is located inside and outside of a torus-shaped stator with back-to-back windings, respectively. The machine substantially improves machine efficiency by reducing the end windings and boosts the torque density by at least doubling the air gap and optimizing the machine aspect ratio.

    摘要: An adjustable speed drive for single-phase induction motors has a low-cost structure including a rectifier and a two-switch inverter. During full-speed operation, power is supplied directly from the AC power system to the main winding of the motor and from the inverter at line frequency but phase-shifted from the line voltage to an auxiliary winding of the motor to develop start up torque for the motor. In one or more lower speed operating modes, power is supplied from the inverter at a lower frequency directly to the main winding and through a phase-shifting capacitor to the auxiliary winding of the motor. Low cost switching devices may be used in the inverter since they are not required to switch the full-speed power of the motor.

    摘要: A multilevel inverter system having four or more levels of output voltage on each inverter output line. The voltage across each of three or more series connected DC bus capacitors is provided to an inverter which is formed to have redundant switching states, such as a plurality of controlled switching devices and diodes connected in a diode-clamped multilevel inverter configuration. The switching of the switching devices is controlled to provide a selected output voltage waveform utilizing redundant switching states, when such states are available on each voltage transition, by selecting a one of the available switching states that serves to provide the desired phase-to-phase voltages and to tend to equalize the voltages across the DC bus capacitors. Active or passive rectifiers may be used to provide the DC voltage across the DC bus lines and across the DC bus capacitors. Separate rectifiers may be provided for each capacitor which are supplied from secondaries of transformers connected to the three phase input lines to provide isolation and voltage level adjustment. The multilevel inverter system provides output voltage waveforms with lower total harmonic distortion that conventional two or three level inverters, while maintaining voltage balance across the several DC bus capacitors.

    摘要: To determine the flux in the air gap of an electrical machine having distributed stator windings, the voltages across two coils of a phase belt in certain phases of the stator are measured and the voltage across one coil in each phase belt is subtracted from the voltage in the other coil. The voltage differences are integrated to provide a measure of the air gap flux. Measurement of the entire air gap flux about the machine can be obtained utilizing two coils in a phase belt per phase of the machine. The instantaneous electromagnetic torque in the machine can be calculated directly as a function of the calculated air gap flux and of the currents in the stator windings. Such flux and torque measurements are obtained utilizing electrical connections to the existing coils of the machine, without the need to modify the machine by adding further windings or sensors. The flux and torque signals so obtained may be utilized in motor controllers, and are particularly useful for control of AC induction motors.

    摘要: An electrical machine is disclosed, capable of functioning as either a motor or generator, which has a salient pole rotor (23) and a stator having multiple phase windings (21) each comprising a concentrated, full pitch winding with one stator slot per pole per phase. The pole faces (27) of the salient poles of the rotor may be tapered to produce an air gap which increases from the front to the back of the pole face to counter the effect of armature reaction MMF. The taper of the pole faces is selected such that the resultant total flux density in the air gap from field and armature currents is quasi-rectangular. The quasi-rectangular flux densities rotating in the air gap produce quasi-rectangular phase voltages and currents when the machine is operated as a generator, and, when operated as a motor, the machine is adapted to accept quasi-rectangular supply currents or voltages of the type readily produced by variable frequency converter power supplies.
