Abstract: A composite article including a multiple of composite layers impregnated with a polymer matrix; and a nanotube material that facilitates a mechanical interlock between at least two of the multiple of composite layers. A method of manufacturing a composite article including a multiple of composite layers within a polymer matrix; and distributing a nanotube material between at least two of the multiple of composite layers to facilitate a mechanical interlock between the at least two of the multiple of composite layers adjacent an otherwise relatively low strength interlaminar interface region of the composite article.

Abstract: A gas turbine engine and a composite apparatus is disclosed. The gas turbine engine includes a composite apparatus body formed from a composite material, the composite material including a three dimensional preform, the three dimensional preform including a plurality of warp fibers disposed in a warp direction in a first plane, a plurality of fill fibers disposed in a fill direction, wherein the fill direction is perpendicular to the warp direction in the first plane, a plurality of z-yarn fibers disposed in a z-yarn direction, wherein the z-yarn direction intersects the warp direction through the first plane, and a plurality of bias fibers disposed in a bias direction, wherein the bias direction is not aligned with the warp direction and the fill direction.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and systems for the bonding of dissimilar substrates. For example, a first substrate may be coupled to a second substrate by a composite joint between the first substrate and the second substrate. The composite joint may be comprised of a first adhesive material and a second adhesive material. The first adhesive material may be disposed on the first substrate, and the second adhesive material may be disposed to the first adhesive material. The composite joint between the first substrate and the second substrate may provide an isolation layer therebetween, preventing galvanic corrosion.

Abstract: A method of separating a lap joint assembly may include positioning a fluid emitter relative to a lap joint assembly. The lap joint assembly may include an adhesive lap joint between a first component and a second component. The method may further include emitting a cryogenic fluid stream from the fluid emitter at the adhesive lap joint. Positioning the fluid emitter and emitting the cryogenic fluid stream may include orienting the fluid emitter such that an angle between the cryogenic fluid stream and the adhesive lap joint is less than 45 degrees. The first component may be a sheath and the second component may be an airfoil body.
