    摘要: A method of optimizing effects of a shim system on static magnetic field in an imaging system or liquid spectroscopy system, wherein for each cell of a probe disposed within the magnetic field, the resonant frequency is obtained without any current being supplied to any shim coil, then for each cell, the resonant frequency thereof is obtained by a current being supplied to one shim without any current being supplied to the other shims, and a factor is obtained for each cell due only to the magnetic field produced by current supplied to the one shim, and the resulting difference divided by the current supplied to the shim is obtained for each cell for each separate shim current, from the data an equation is derived relating the field at each cell to the individual shim current. For the case when the number of cells is equal to or less than the number of shim coils, this equation is inverted to give the shim current values to produce the same field at all cells. For the case when the number of cells is greater than the number of shim coils, a least square method is applied utilizing the equation and matrix factors to determine the current values which produce the least errors in the cells.

    摘要: A multiple tuned birdcage coil structure has a plurality of birdcage coils arranged coaxially one inside another around a central axis. Each of the birdcage coils has two conductor rings separated along the central axis and a plurality of mutually separated and parallel linearly elongated conductor legs and generates B1 field which rotates around the central axis by a specified twist angle between the two rings. The twist angles of different ones of these birdcage coils are different by an integral multiple of 360 degrees such that the assembled birdcage coils are mutually inductively transparent. Such a multiple tuned birdcage coil structure may be formed by assembling individually prepared single tuned birdcage coils each having a specified twist angle with a cylindrically shaped insulating bodies in between. A double tuned birdcage coil structure with two birdcage coils may be produced by providing a single printed circuit substrate with metallic sheets laminated on an insulating sheet, etching the metallic sheets to form appropriate patterns, rolling the substrate into a cylindrical form and soldering together appropriate portions of ring-forming parts to form conductor rings directly connected to or capacitively coupled to spirally birdcage legs.

    摘要: An apparatus for tuning and/or matching a RF coil in a NMR probe comprising a first variable capacitor electrically connected to the coil and a first motor capable of coupling to the first variable capacitor. The first motor when coupled to the first capacitor adjusts a capacitance associated with the first capacitor. The first motor is capable of operating in a strong magnetic field and is capable of not disturbing homogeneity of said magnetic field when said motor is not operating. The apparatus may further include a second variable capacitor and a second motor. The first motor is further capable of coupling to the second capacitor for adjusting a capacitance associated with the second capacitor. The second motor moves the first motor between coupling with the first capacitor and coupling with the second capacitor. The mechanism may be employed to manipulate variable inductive loads for tuning and/or matching.

    摘要: The present invention relates to improving the sensitivity of an NMR system for electrically conductive (polar) NMR samples. Many NMR samples use water or a salt solution of water or other electrically conductive liquid as a solvent for biologically active materials. When such a sample is placed in the probe coil of an NMR spectrometer, electrical losses in the conductive material lowers the Q of the receiving circuit and thereby reduces the sensitivity of the spectrometer. These electrical losses can be greatly reduced by breaking up the current paths within the sample. This can be achieved by a special sample cell that compartmentalizes the sample with electrical insulating material reducing the electrical current paths.

    摘要: A seismographic sensor is constructed from a D'Arsonval movement. The elements of the movement include a coil suspended in the field of a permanent magnet and a pointer attached to the coil. A weight is attached to the pointer and acts as an inertia element. Leveling screws are provided to control the period of the weighted pointer and to control the resting position of the pointer. When the base of the meter vibrates during an earthquake, the weighted pointer does not follow the vibration because of its inertia, resulting in a relative rotation of the meter coil and the magnet field, thereby inducing a voltage in the coil. This voltage is proportional to one component of horizontal velocity of the earth's motion. Means are provided to process and record the magnitude of this voltage.

    摘要: The average power capacity of a rotating-anode X-ray generator tube is limited by the slow radiation cooling of the anode. The invention removes this limitation by rotating the entire vacuum envelope so the heat can be conducted directly to the air or to a circulating liquid. The cathode and anode are made as figures of revolution about the axis. A stationary source of X-rays is produced by focusing a stationary spot of the light onto a rotating photocathode. The photoelectrons are drawn off and focused onto a stationary spot on the rotating anode, to produce a stationary source of X-rays.

Heat must still be radiated from the anode to the exterior walls. An improved X-ray source incorporates the anode in the walls of the vacuum chamber and rotates the entire chamber. The heat is then easily conducted to the exterior where it may be dissipated by connection or forced air cooling.

    摘要: An improvement in an ultrasonic imaging system is disclosed, enabling determination of volume and/or shape of three-dimensional portions of bodily tissue or the like. The improvement is applicable to ultrasonic imaging systems of the type adapted for examining bodily tissue, especially those including sector scanning transducer means, such as electronically scanned phased arrays or mechanically scanned transducers; means for phasing the actuation of said transducers to steer the emitted sound beam in a plurality of radial directions in a fan-shaped sector; means for receiving the reflected energy from the plurality of radial directions in the sector; means for determining from the reflected energy the acoustical impedance variations within the bodily tissue examined along the radial directions and providing therefrom a reconstructed image of the fan-shaped planar cross-section of bodily tissue examined; and a transducer body for carrying said array of elements, said body having an axis aligned with the plane of said fan-shaped sector and approximately symmetrically dividing the included angle of said fan, the body being orientable with respect to the bodily tissue being examined to enable the fan-shaped sector to intersect and thereby effect imaging of a desired cross-section of said tissue. The improvement enables evaluation of the volume or shape of a three-dimensional portion of the tissue being examined, and comprises means for determining the rotational angle between a reference position and a plurality of selected examining positions of the transducer body, upon the transducer body being rotated from its reference to the selected examining positions while at least one point on the body axis remains substantially spatially fixed; and means for correlating the associated reconstructed images with the said determined angles, whereby to generate a plurality of cross-sectional images of said three-dimensional tissue portion being examined, wherein the imaged tissue cross-sections include at least one common point, thereby to enable evaluation of the volume or shape of the three-dimensional tissue portion of interest.
