Abstract: A method includes illuminating a drop with a pulse of light from a light source. A duration of the pulse of light is from about 0.0001 seconds to about 0.1 seconds. The method also includes capturing an image, video, or both of the drop. The method also includes detecting the drop in the image, the video, or both. The method also includes characterizing the drop after the drop is detected. Characterizing the drop includes determining a size of the drop, a location of the drop, or both in the image, the video, or both.

Abstract: A method includes capturing a video of a plurality of drops being jetted through a nozzle of a printer. The method also includes measuring a signal proximate to the nozzle based at least partially upon the video. The method also includes determining one or more metrics that characterize a behavior of the drops based at least partially upon the signal.

Abstract: A document may include a non-magnetic substrate, a first colorant mixture printed as a first image upon the substrate, the first colorant mixture including a magnetic ink, and a second colorant mixture printed as a second image upon the substrate in substantially close spatial proximity to the printed first colorant mixture. The second colorant mixture may consist essentially of one or more non-magnetic inks and exhibit properties of both low visual contrast and high magnetic contrast against the first colorant mixture, such that the resultant printed substrate does not reveal the first image to the human eye, but will reveal the first image to a magnetic image reader.

Abstract: A system creates an electronic file corresponding to a printed artifact by launching a video capture module that causes a mobile electronic device to capture a video of a scene that includes the printed artifact. The system analyzes image frames in the video in real time as the video is captured to identify a suitable instance. In one example, the suitable instance is a frame or sequence of frames that contain an image of a page or side of the printed artifact and that do not exhibit a page-turn event. In response to identification of the suitable instance, the system will automatically cause a photo capture module of the device to capture a still image of the printed artifact. The still image has a resolution that is higher than that of the image frames in the video. The system will save the captured still images to a computer-readable file.

Abstract: A mobile electronic device processes a sequence of images to identify and re-identify an object of interest in the sequence. An image sensor of the device, receives a sequence of images. The device detects an object in a first image as well as positional parameters of the device that correspond to the object in the first image. The device determines a range of positional parameters within which the object may appear in a field of view of the device. When the device detects that the object of interest exited the field of view it subsequently uses motion sensor data to determine that the object of interest has likely re-entered the field of view, it will analyze the current frame to confirm that the object of interest has re-entered the field of view.

Abstract: A method, non-transitory computer readable medium and apparatus for determining spectral characteristics of an image captured by a camera on a mobile endpoint device are disclosed. For example, the method includes receiving the image of a color calibration card comprising a plurality of color patches and a quick response (QR) code, wherein each one of the plurality of color patches has a known spectral reflectance, determining spectral characteristics from the image of the color calibration card, wherein the spectral characteristics are used to analyze additional images that are received from the camera on the mobile endpoint device and transmitting an activation signal to activate an incentive associated with the QR code to the mobile endpoint device in response to receiving the image of the color calibration card.

Abstract: The quality of surgeries in captured videos is modeled in a learning network. For this task, a dataset of surgical video is given with a corresponding set of scores that are labeled by reviewers, to learn a model for quality assessment of surgical procedures. A learned model is then used to automatically assess quality of a surgical procedure, which omits the need for professional experts to manually inspect such videos. The quality assessment of surgical procedures can be performed off-line or in real-time as the surgical procedure is being performed. Surgical actions in surgical procedures are also localized in space and time to provide a feedback to the surgeon as to which action can be improved.

Abstract: A method and system for reconstructing an image of a scene comprises configuring a digital light modulator according to a spatially varying pattern. Light energy associated with the scene and incident on the spatially varying pattern is collected and optically focused on the photodetectors. Data indicative of the intensity of the focused light energy from each of said at least two photodetectors is collected. Data from the photodetectors is then combined to reconstruct an image of the scene.
